Overview
Develops media/publicity strategy for books, prepares original materials, and pitches story and programming ideas to get editors, producers, and others.
Ensures international media coverage for Press books and authors across traditional and multiple third-party digital platforms.
Maintains direct relations with author by coordinating strategy and planning meetings and communicating marketing news and requests.
Develops strategy and manages content for in-house social media sites including Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, X, YouTube, and others.
Creates and designs, as needed, promotional materials including press releases, galleys, sales materials, signage, and copywriting.
Selects and manages freelance publicists, designers, and other contract service providers.
Website Management:Oversees website strategy, design/development, and ongoing management and updates.
Manages website content.
Event Management:Manages and executes author/book events and retail engagements in collaboration with the Sales Manager.
Develops collateral and proposes in-person and online event ideas to local and chain retailers, book festivals, conferences, cultural institutions, and other organizations.
Newsletter and Podcast:Edits the Press's newsletter, including strategic planning, story idea development and preparation, writer coordination, content management, and distribution.
Co-produces the Press's podcast, including strategic planning, content idea development and creation, scheduling, post-production editing, and distribution.
Awards Management:Maintains the awards database.
Identifies, selects, and facilitates award submissions and follow-up with awards organizers as needed.
Community Relations:Assists with and represents the Press at various community-facing initiatives and events, including public speaking as needed.
Data Management:Tracks and analyzes data related to marketing functions and makes forward-looking, strategic changes and improvements.
Co-manages the TU Press contacts database.
ADDITIONAL DUTIESProvides occasional review of proposed manuscripts and other projects and provides feedback as to marketing potential.
Provides strategic and long-term planning advice to the Director.
Proposes, manages, and reports on the marketing budget. Manages vendors and others to keep costs within budget.
Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality and interacts with confidence, patience and integrity to provide professional leadership during emergencies.
Complies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines.
Performs other duties as required.
Hires and manages or co-manages (with Sales Manager) up to three student interns.
Assists in the selection of and co-manages the Marketing & Sales Assistant (with Sales Manager).
EDUCATIONRequired:
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communication, or related field from an accredited institution.
EXPERIENCERequired:
Two (2) years of marketing and analytics experience.
Experience working in a fast-paced environment handling multiple tasks.
Experience in digital marketing.
Experience assisting, leading and/or managing email, social media and/or display advertising campaigns.
Experience setting up and optimizing Facebook and other paid social media campaigns.
Preferred:Experience in a book publishing or retail sales, or other client/public-facing marketing environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESRequired:
Strong organization, project management and analytical skills.
Ability to manage a wide range of tasks, often with shifting priorities and time frames.
Ability to problem solve, independently exercise sound judgment and work with a small fast-paced team.
Proficiency with Google and Microsoft productivity platforms, as well as experience with database systems. Experience with design and online content creation programs preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communications.
Preferred:Familiarity with media and publishing industry databases and related programs.
