Primary Responsibilities: • Create and manage accurate 3D BIM models for mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, etc.) using Inventor/SolidWorks and other relevant BIM software. • Collaborate with engineers and design teams to integrate mechanical systems into the overall building design, ensuring coordination with other disciplines (electrical, structural, architectural). • Use BIM software to perform clash detection and resolve conflicts between mechanical systems and other building systems to avoid costly on-site issues. • Prepare and update mechanical drawings, system layouts, and specifications from the BIM models. Ensure all designs meet local codes, regulations, and industry standards. • Conduct regular quality checks on the BIM models to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with company and project standards. • Develop and maintain DWG templates, part family libraries, and design standards to streamline project execution and improve consistency. • Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and contractors to provide technical support, resolve design issues, and ensure proper system implementation. • Assist in the preparation of design submittals, presentations, and reports. Help prepare mechanical system specifications and technical documentation for clients and contractors. • Stay updated on the latest trends, tools, and technologies in BIM and mechanical systems design. Contribute to the ongoing improvement of design processes and workflows.
Professional Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field preferred. • Alternatively, a technical diploma or equivalent experience in mechanical systems design with specialized BIM training. • At least 3 years of experience in mechanical systems design, with a focus on BIM modeling and coordination. • Proficiency in Inventor/SolidWorks, and other BIM-related software is required. • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and energy-efficient design principles. • Proficiency in 3D BIM modeling and coordination. • Experience with clash detection and resolution within the BIM environment. • Familiarity with building codes, standards, and regulations related to mechanical systems. • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines. • Strong attention to detail and a proactive, problem-solving mindset. • BIM certification is preferred. • LEED or other sustainability certifications are a plus.
