Product Manager of the Drop Out Prevention Product titled "Star Academy"
We are looking for a Copy Editor to join our content team, focusing on reviewing and improving existing lesson plans and instructional materials. Your primary responsibility will be to edit, refine, and update curriculum content to ensure it is clear, structured, and aligned with our instructional education style. You will work with established guidelines and rubrics to make edits and adjustments, ensuring consistency and accuracy. This role is a great fit for someone with strong editing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow structured guidelines.
This position offers a stable workload with opportunities to grow into more advanced content development roles over time. You’ll work closely with our current curriculum editor, contractors, and media/QA teams to ensure all content meets quality standards before release. If you enjoy structured editing work and working with a collaborative team, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit and update curriculum materials (lesson plans and PowerPoint presentations) following established guidelines and rubrics.
- Ensure content clarity and accuracy by reviewing text for grammar, consistency, and alignment with educational objectives.
- Validate content changes to ensure previous updates and revisions follow specified guidelines.
- Coordinate content hand-offs between writers, media, and QA teams, ensuring smooth transitions between development phases.
- Participate/lead storyboard review sessions, document feedback, and make necessary edits.
- Manage multiple modules at a time, typically balancing 3–4 at once, with a goal of completing one module every 2–3 weeks. Note that module progression is staggered.
Currently, this role is not a creative writing or content development position—it is focused on structured editing and improving existing content based on clear guidelines. Strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to follow set processes are key to success.
- Quality Review (30%): About 30% of your time will be spent reviewing content from previous stages of development. This involves checking alignment with rubrics and academic standards, and making or recommending revisions to uphold quality.
- Coordination & Reviews (25%): Around 25% of your time is dedicated to coordination — scheduling hand-offs and conducting storyboard review sessions. You'll work with writers, designers, and other stakeholders to keep everyone aligned and projects on schedule.
- Editing & Feedback (45%): The rest is spent editing content and integrating feedback. This includes refining written material, adjusting project steps for clarity, incorporating multimedia elements, and polishing each module based on team and user feedback.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, Instructional Design, English, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 3+ years of experience in curriculum development, content editing, instructional design, or a similar field.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with a keen eye for grammar, tone, and consistency.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Power Point.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with project-based learning methodologies and/or STEM education principles.
- Adaptability and a proactive mindset — comfortable pivoting when requirements change and open to continuous learning.
- Mentorship: Work closely with our current Curriculum Editor, who will mentor you and help you get up to speed with our content and processes.
- Reporting: Report directly to the Content Team Manager, ensuring regular 1:1 meetings, direct support, and clear guidance as you navigate your responsibilities. You will receive structured feedback, mentorship, and the tools needed to succeed in your role.
- Collaboration: Partner with freelance curriculum writers, subject matter experts, and our QA/media production teams to ensure each module is accurate, engaging, and high-quality.
Focus on Editing: While you’ll coordinate with various team members (including contractors), this role does not involve hiring or managing staff. Your focus remains on editing content and improving it within the existing team structure.
Growth Opportunities: We are a fast-growing company, and high-performing team members have the chance to take on new responsibilities and advance their careers. Your growth is based on your impact and initiative.
