EDUCATION :
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Completion of forty-eight (48) college hours at an accredited college or university and/or possess an Associate's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university (Required for employment in Title I schools only)
One year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
CERTIFICATION :
Paraprofessional Certification as required by the State Board and the District
High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.

PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :
Assists the school librarian by providing clerical and technical support in the daily operation of the school library. Paraprofessionals may provide instruction provided they are working under the direct supervision of a "highly qualified teacher" (Title I Schools Only).
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists students and faculty with locating library materials for class assignments, research and independent reading.
2. Assists students and faculty in the use of computer software and on-line services available in the library.
3. Assists with the supervision of students.
4. Shelves returned materials.
5. Operates, maintains and trouble shoots automated library system.
6. Maintains an accurate account of overdue, lost and damaged materials by generating and distributing lists and notices.
7. Assists with inventory of materials collection and assists in preparation of Library Annual Report.
8. Schedules, maintains and assists faculty with the use of audiovisual, technology and office equipment.
9. Assembles materials requested for special use.
10. Processes new materials and repairs damaged items.
11. Maintains bulletin boards, prepares newsletters and assists with public relations activities.
12. Answers telephone, takes messages, files paperwork, types correspondence and performs routine office procedures.
13. Installs and maintains supplemental reading programs, such as Accelerated Reader (AR) and Reading Counts.
14. Assists students and staff in use of AR or Reading Counts programs.
15. Manages data entry, testing, and marking of library collection for use with AR or Reading Counts program.
16. Maintains confidentiality of information.
17. Reports to work on time every day.
18. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: • Ability to work well with children

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The environmental characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
