Overview
The Senior Graphic Designer leads design services for the in-house creative team. This role is responsible for concepting, developing, and producing creative marketing collateral and digital content for both internal and external audiences. The Senior Visual Designer must exhibit exceptional design skills in achieving high standards for all materials requiring design in assigned projects and tasks. This role must exhibit knowledge of the regional market and College audiences and execute design requests accordingly.
Essential Functions:
- Designs within established guidelines specific to Owens' intended style and tone, visually portraying the brand image and ensuring it is uniform across all interpretations for both print and digital environments.
- Serve as an authority of institutional branding and marketing standards of the Owens brand and its visual identity system. Helps provide design and professional insights for digital strategy, advertising vendors, or community partners of the College.
- Designs, produces, and is accountable for the final development of creative campaigns and assets, ensuring accuracy, attention to detail, and meeting or exceeding the overall design objectives within brand standards.
- Translates partner specifications, user needs, and technical requirements into designs that are visually enticing, easy to use, and engaging.
- Leads concepting and execution of high-level creative projects as assigned. Successfully completes strategic projects as assigned.
- Develops initial layouts, storyboards, or mock-ups for multimedia (including video graphics and digital marketing assets).
- Collaborates with a cross-functional team that includes digital, content, and multimedia specialists, along with coordinators and directors.
- Supports established digital asset management and guides new asset management that may be needed in the future to help remain competitive with outside services.
- Gives and receives constructive feedback and design critiques with the goal of improvement and providing work at the highest possible quality. Mentors and engages with interns and part-time staff to enrich and broaden their knowledge and abilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrates proficient expertise in Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, and Canva Pro.
- Knowledge of executing creative concepts across platforms, including digital, social media, and print.
- Excellent typography, design, and production skills in both print and digital mediums, with a strong understanding of web, social media, and video best practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a record of collaboration and teamwork.
- Demonstrates creative problem-solving skills and is proactive in presenting solutions to challenges.
- Ability to execute creative concepts across platforms, including digital, social media, and print.
- Ability to write and speak effectively and can clearly communicate with peers, leadership team, and partners.
- Ability to adapt well to changing priorities, deadlines, and directions.
- Ability to state opinions clearly and can verbally describe visual concepts.
- At least 5 years professional level experience required in creative/graphic design within an external or in-house agency.
