A key responsibility for this role will be to develop and execute comprehensive media strategies to enhance the organization's visibility and reputation. This role will involve both proactive and reactive media outreach, crisis communications management, and overseeing internal communications initiatives, as well as DART's digital presence.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Directs media relations, operations communications, and Internet website staff.Represent DART to local media outlets and partners as a spokesperson for the organization- maintains a 24/7 on call schedule in coordination with other PR team members. Develop and implement strategic media and/or communications plans to effectively communicate the organization's key messages and objectives. Ensures alignment with overall agency brand development and marketing/communications strategies while working to achieve identified agency objectives. Writes and edits copy for print, digital and audiovisual media.Content management and oversight: Supervise or collaborate with internal and external audiovisual support personnel to include photography, video presentations, audio visual support with the goal of increased storytelling that showcases the DART Brand.Directs the implementation of communications plans and functions and ensures alignment with overall agency brand development and marketing/communications strategies. Works in partnership with other departments to identify solutions-based innovative opportunities to advance DARTs brand and achieve agency objectives.Provides direction to the digital media team to identify opportunities and content to post across channels. Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers across various media outlets to secure positive coverage and promote the organization's initiatives.Lead the creation, distribution, and pitching of press releases, media advisories, and other media materials to generate media interest and coverage- ensure AP style across all channels.Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries during crisis situations, providing timely and accurate information to protect the organization's reputation.Oversee internal communications efforts to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with external communications strategies.Monitor media coverage and industry trends to identify opportunities and potential risks, providing regular updates and insights to senior leadership.Works in partnership with other departments to identify solutions-based innovative opportunities to advance DARTs brand and achieve agency objectives.Develops and manages cost center budget. Proactively identifies opportunities and recommends action to correct variances as needed. Participates with ongoing, mid-year and final budget reviews.Manage and mentor a team (including our Operations Community Liaisons as well as our Internal Communications teams, and the digital content team), providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.Oversee and approve the work of direct reports.Performs other related duties as assigned.MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:Note : An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Telecommunications, Liberal Arts or related field.Five (5) years progressively responsible experience in print, audiovisual or digital communications and executive presentations, including the supervision of the communications function and staff in a corporate, non-profit or government environment.Pass a physical (medical) examination that includes a drug screen in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.Knowledge of budget development/analysis, and operational cost factors.Proficiency of PC software applications to include Microsoft Office or other related software applications.Analytical and creative skills to find solutions to complex interpersonal, technical and administrative problems.Knowledge of AP Style.Must be able to maintain confidential information as needed and work with a sense of urgency.Ability to work variable hours in an on-call environment.Ability to accurately scope out length and difficulty of tasks and projects. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
