Overview
The Associate Product Development Designer is an integral part of the Textile Development Design team. This position provides support to the team by preparing warps, dressing looms and hand weaving color work and sampling. Other tasks include organizing and labeling samples, maintaining order of the design archives and library, providing support with quality and inspection and general administrative tasks as needed.
The workload varies based on project requests and the development calendar, with approximately 80% of the position focused on hand weaving color work, administrative and quality support and 20% focused on design and weaving of new textiles.
Working closely in a studio with the design team, we are looking for a creative individual with a positive attitude, who shows flexibility, a desire to learn and a willingness to work independently as needed. Due to the significant volume of hand weaving required of this position, the Associate Product Development Designer must also be willing and able to perform this physically demanding, skilled work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare warps and wefts, dress loom
- Weave fabric samples and color work
- Create weave specifications, both dobby and jacquard
- Maintain and organize development samples, color tools, and studio working spaces
- Provide support for production and quality teams
Qualifications:
- 2+ years textile design / weaving experience
- Knowledge of fabric/weave structure
- Knowledge of computer-aided design program (such as NedGraphics / Texcelle, JacqCAD)
- Graphic art / print experience
- Must be detail-oriented, organized and punctual
- Strong problem-solving skills, organizational habits, and team player
