Brief Summary of Job Description
Provides complex and responsible financial insight requiring significant expertise in high-level accounting functions, analysis, budgeting, and cost and internal controls for the Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA). Interacts with independent accountant, outside auditors, volunteers, and colleagues.
Job Duties•Prepares all internal and bank deposit forms for four checking accounts and oneinvestment account. Distributes forms to specified parties.•Transmits all credit card payments and maintains receipts and records. Inputs revenue information in member/donor database.•Handles all MONA Guild financial transactions including deposits, payments through database with appropriate documentation, check writing, and monthly reports.Distributes reports to specified parties.•Initiates Museum Shop expense payments through database with appropriatedocumentation. Reviews weekly deposits prepared by Shop volunteer. Maintains Shop financial records.•Prepares MONA expense payment database entries with appropriate documentationand ensures timely payments.•Maintains MONA check register by recording all deposits, payments, transfers, and reconciling with the independent accountant's records.•Analyzes monthly financial reports prepared by independent accountant for accuracy and trends. Updates detailed separate reports that track selected MONA activities such as workshop revenue and expenses, Temporarily Restricted revenue and expenses, Membership revenue by account, Exhibition expenses, and others•Resolves accounting discrepancies.•Creates spreadsheets that monitor various financial areas, such as allocating credit card fees to appropriate checking accounts and preparing mini income statements for special projects.•Updates monthly portfolio performance spreadsheet, and forward to the MONA Board of Directors Finance, Audit, and Investment Committee.•Monitors and anticipates cash flow requirements•Initiates transfers among various MONA accounts, to include appropriate documentation.•Updates budget worksheets, estimating to year-end and developing upcoming yearnumbers using past data to ensure reasonable projections.•Prepares budgets for grant applications and final reports.•Updates the activity of 16 endowment and similar funds, as needed but at leastannually.•Develops written procedures for the paperwork flow among Museum departments, independent accountant, and auditors•Has charge of the credit cards issued to the Museum, monitors and prepares therespective payment•Is responsible for pretty cash tracking any advances and all receipts; preparesmonthly itemized replenishment•Attends Board meetings. Serves as a resource for the staff and Board in the areas of accounting and finances
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with an accounting emphasis or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong analytical and computer skills, firms grasp of accounting and financial practices, close attention to detail, efficient and accurate work results. Non-profit accounting experience preferred. Ability and enthusiasm to work in a collegial, team-focused work setting.
