Job Summary:
A Radio Maintenance Technician II repairs, maintains, installs, fabricates and tests two-way radio communications and related electronic equipment. The work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class may work rotating shifts and may be on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Work is performed in equipment repair shops and garages where such conditions as grease, gas and exhaust fumes and loud noises may be encountered. The work requires moderate physical exertion in lifting and moving radio communications equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
Education: Have an associate of arts degree in electronic maintenance with courses in two-way radio maintenance from an accredited college or university.
AND
Experience: Have one year of experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of two-way radio and electronic equipment.
OR
Equivalency Notes: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate and three years of experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of two-way radio and electronic equipment.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit. PROVISIONAL DRIVER'S LICENSE ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of two-way radio and electronic equipment.
- Knowledge of frequency modulation (FM) communication systems, including solid state, transistors and integrated circuits.
- Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission regulations as applied to the repair, testing and adjusting of two-way radios.
- Knowledge of automotive electrical systems.
- Skill in soldering and working with miniaturized components.
- Ability to diagnose complex equipment malfunctions and quickly repair radio communications equipment.
- Ability to fabricate electronic and test equipment and electronic component parts.
Additional Information
Background Check
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
Probation
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month/1-year probation.
Eligibility
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
Education Accreditation
Applicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
Selection Process

Examination Process
