Retina Consultants of Texas (RCTX) is seeking a Visual Acuity Examiner to join our innovative team with the mission of Fighting Blindness For The World To See. This position will be responsible for performing standardized refraction and visual acuity assessments as required by various study protocols and manuals of procedures. Day-to-day activities may include some or all of the essential functions listed below, depending on individual experience and the organization's needs, which are subject to change.
This position will be based at The Woodlands Clinic.
Candidates must be able to meet the needs of patients and providers and support the Research Department hours of 6:30 am - 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Schedules are provided weekly and are based on clinic, patient, and surgery schedules.

Responsibilities
- Coordinate with study team members regarding subject flow.
- Perform manifest refraction, best corrected visual acuity tests with loose lenses, low luminance, and speed-reading tests (MN Read and Radner) accurately and timely.
- Conduct Pelli-Robson or MARS Contrast Sensitivity, Color Vision testing, and other vision assessments as needed for clinical trials.
- Follow protocols and schedules for all vision assessments.
- Utilize the manual lensometer to read glasses prescriptions accurately.
- Perform auto-refraction and keratometry procedures.
- Measure intraocular pressure (tonopen and Goldman applanation) and administer dilation drops as per protocols.
- Obtain and maintain necessary certifications promptly and ensure certifications are current.
- Ensure the visual acuity testing lane is properly certified and maintained.
- Maintain all equipment, lenses, and charts required for testing.
- Keep records of equipment certifications and maintenance, providing updates to sponsors and staff.
- Maintain good relationships with vendors and sponsors, addressing deviations promptly.
- Assist Clinical Research Coordinators, the Clinical Research Director, and perform other duties as assigned.
- Perform additional testing such as microperimetry or microscopy as per protocol.
- Accurately file and locate study documents as needed.
- Support various projects and duties, demonstrating creativity and flexibility.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent, with relevant experience.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- Experience in Ophthalmology and/or Optometry preferred.
- Refracting experience preferred.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to deliver safe and appropriate care in accordance with study protocols.
