OVERVIEW Associated Students, Inc. employs student-focused professionals with equity-mindsets. POSITION DEFINITION Under general supervision from the Design Manager, the Senior Designer Supervisor performs routine and non-routine tasks in support of ASI’s dynamic marketing team. The Senior Designer Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of the Senior Designer needs within the ASI Marketing, Design, and Public Relations (MDPR) department. They ensure design standards are maintained, assign design projects, manage schedules and timecards, assist with the creation of graphic design, and all other tasks that ensure efficient and timely delivery of marketing assets. Along with their creative responsibilities, the Senior Designer Supervisor will take part in professional development through assigned tasks, video tutorials, and other methods of learning. While this position is designed for advanced Visual Communication Design majors (VCD), it is open to all qualified individuals. A portfolio is required to be considered for this position. The portfolio will demonstrate a strong understanding of image manipulation, typography, composition, and image creation. Samples of logos, branded elements, posters, multipage publications (print or digital), flyers, and social media content are recommended. Illustration samples are a plus. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Creative/Artistic Responsibility Provide creative insight for projects related to print, experiential, environmental, social media, and digital media. Provide customer service to clients in need of graphic design. Prepare artwork for presentations and pitches. Prepare Senior Design Team weekly meeting agendas and document meetings. Assist Design Manager with various projects. Work closely with Senior Designers and Junior Designers to complete assignments. Provide administrative support. Perform other duties as assigned. Organizational Responsibility Provide direct supervision to the Senior Designers. Assist in interviewing, onboarding, and training new staff. Provide leadership and mentorship to the Senior Designers. Maintain organizational file structure for all design-related files. Participate in and assist in leading team meetings. Manage the Senior Designers’ work schedules. Review and approve timecards. Technical Participate in regular professional development trainings. Ensure learning modules are completed in a timely manner. Assist in developing training and learning modules. Supervision Assign projects to the Senior Designers. Provide day-to-day oversight of the Senior Designers. Assist in providing performance reviews for the Senior Designers. Collaboration and Partnerships Provide consultation with clients and offer creative design solutions. Collaborate directly with the Production, Operations, and Brand Ambassador teams on producing print and other assets for all in-house creative requests. QUALIFICATIONS Six months of supervisory experience preferred. One to two years' experience with Adobe Creative Suite. One to two years’ experience in the creation of graphic design (either client or academic based). Preferred to have completed or to be enrolled in the following classes or to have equivalent experience: VCD 1321A Foundations in 2D Design. VCD 1312A Foundations in Drawing 2. VCD 2301A Typography. VCD 2321A Visual Communication Design 1. VCD 2370 Visual Thinking. Ability to work in a cross-platform environment (MAC and PC). Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word. Self-motivated with strong organizational and critical thinking skills. Ability to operate a computer workstation using word processing, spreadsheet, and other computer applications in use. Ability to successfully complete tasks in a fast-paced, changing environment. Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions. Ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Ability to maintain professional work conduct. Ability to make independent decisions and recommendations. Ability to adhere to work rules, follow directions, use time effectively, and work productively without close supervision. Ability to lead and mentor others. Sharp attention to detail. Ability to manage time in a demanding, deadline-driven environment. Demonstrated ability to provide friendly and pleasant customer-oriented service. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population and campus community. Skilled in traditional illustration media, 3D, and/or photography a plus.
