Alpha Omega is seeking an experienced Web Developer with Public Trust Clearance. The developer will be the primary front-end designer and developer and will build/develop websites and applications, interpret scientific information, improve user experience through Human Centered Design (HCD), and collaborate with stakeholders and IT teams. Work will focus on enhancing customer experience and usability, and improving technical aspects of site performance through cloud migration best practices, UX/UI design best practices, and professional scientific communication best practices for content management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable websites and web-based applications using WordPress.
- Write efficient code and maintain code quality, organization, documentation, and automation.
- Create and maintain websites using standard HTML/CSS best practices.
- Support and troubleshoot various web user application issues.
- Work with peer web designers and stakeholders to gather requirements, meet project deliverables and milestones to produce quality websites.
- Collaborate with IT security staff and communications professionals to meet yearly web certifications and implement security updates as required.
- Provide regular communication with stakeholders and colleagues to develop and deploy requested content – ensuring there is a clear establishment of what can be created within a specified timeframe.
- Consult with stakeholders and communications professionals to determine the scope of content, integrate new features as requested, provide recommendations based on performance metrics, and ensure branding compliance for front-facing websites.
- Research different software programs and maintain software documentation.
- Improve website user experience through Human Centered Design (HCD) and analytics-informed performance enhancements.
- Create graphics and visual deliverables as needed to enhance messaging on stakeholder websites.
- Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these issues.
- Provide analytics-based performance reports to identify performance and usability issues and make recommendations for improvement.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience/Skills:
- 5+ years of experience in web development using WordPress; 10 years in website development and content design.
- Master's degree in physical, biological, ecological, chemical, or Earth system sciences.
- Knowledge of OAR lab and line office scientific activities, OAR & NOAA strategic goals, and NOAA science and technology focus areas.
- 5+ years of experience directly supporting stakeholders in requirements gathering, design, and coordination.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interact well with others and multi-task.
- Operational experience with: WordPress, HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript.
- Experience with cloud technologies, cloud-based website development, Content Management Systems and their respective plugins and modules, and local to cloud website migration.
- Experience implementing automated testing platforms and unit tests.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with CMS-based data visualization tools, applications, and software.
- Experience with Graphic Design and design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
- Experience with code versioning tools (e.g., Git Hub).
- Familiarity with Integrated Development Environments.
- Familiarity with Microsoft SQL queries and SQL databases.
Salary and Benefit Information:
The likely salary range for this position is $75,425 - $133,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. There are multiple factors considered in determining final pay for a position, including relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align with the specified role, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position and could fall outside of this range.
