Reading script and creating a costume plot.Meeting with producers and directors to ideate and define wardrobe requirements.Comfortable working in a variety of genres, time periods, and design styles, character profiles, materials, and translation styles.Preparing initial sketches, costume research, and wardrobe concepts for presentation.Presenting final costume designs, costume plots, and samples for feedback.Implementing modifications to the wardrobe for final approval.Coordinating the design, first pulling from stock, rental, and build of garments.Participating in wardrobe fittings and production dress rehearsals.Performing fittings, adjustments, and final touches on set.Collaborating with the Costume Shop manager on all assignments: the project timelines, fitting schedules, and budgets.Sourcing all costumes, accessories, materials needed to complete the design.Working with the Costume Shop Manager and Stage Manager to complete necessary paperwork (Piece list, quick change tracking, etc.).Costume Designer Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in costume design, fashion design, or similar working experience preferred.Strong portfolio of previous work, including designs in a range of styles and time periods, designs suited for various demographics and body types, a range of costume sketches, technical drawings, and finished drawings and paintings of costumes.A minimum of 3-5 years experience as a professional costume designer.Strong research and interpretation skills.Good knowledge of design principles, techniques, and translation styles.Detailed knowledge of materials and textiles.The ability to design and sew patterns for a variety of garments.Strong written and verbal communication skills.The ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.Strong attention to detail and collaboration skills.Job Type: Contract for 2024-2025 Season with potential for permanent spot.
