Some of these opportunities may be up to 40 hours per week for up to 6 months of employment, while others may provide part-time coverage on evenings, holidays, and weekends for less than 70 hours per month.
These temporary positions are not eligible for County benefits.

Communications equipment installers work on various projects throughout the year. Projects can include new equipment implementation designs for various vehicles, working with public safety vendors such as Whelen and Sirennet, understanding each new model year vehicle configurations and deciding upon the correct public safety equipment packages. The candidate may also work on projects related to specialty vehicles such as motorcycles, boats, ATV's, as well as SWAT and covert vehicle builds.
The candidate may be requested to participate in Emergency Management related projects such as assisting with disaster or incident response.

Installation of public safety equipment, such as, but not limited to light-bars, LED and strobe lighting systems, mobile radios and associated antennas and cabling. Installing public safety equipment in marine, ground and aviation type specialized units. Installing and maintaining public address systems. Troubleshooting and repairing public safety equipment.

One year experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of public safety equipment; Additional education or related experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum working experience of at least 2 years in a like field is strongly desired. The candidate should possess a familiarity and comfortablility with basic public safety equipment/electronics as well as a solid knowledge of hand and power tools. Some experience with electronic testing equipment such as wattmeters, ohmeteres, current meters, multimeters, volt meters and warning light control systems is desired. Prior knowledge of cable harness design and layout as working with lighting control systems.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to successfully complete all required background investigations. Possession of a valid Washington State driver's license is required.

Vacation (Annual Leave)After approximately six months, employees receive six days of vacation leave.Since we value your experience, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Vacation accrues on a bi-weekly basis for full-time employees as follows:

Holidays:Some full-time employees are entitled to eleven paid holidays as follows:

Personal Holidays:Regular full-time and regular part-time employees, and employees occupying limited duration positions, shall also receive two additional paid personal holidays. Paid personal holidays shall only accrue for those employees on County payroll as of January 1 of each year or the first work day following January 1 and must be taken during the calendar year in which it was accrued.
Furlough:Some Pierce County employees may be designated to receive 10 "furlough" days per year in lieu of holidays. Furlough days are available for use on January 1 and must be scheduled and taken within the calendar year. Employees who leave employment with Pierce County must reimburse the employer for used furlough days based upon the number of remaining holidays.
Sick Leave:Sick leave accrues on a bi-weekly basis, at the rate of one day per month.
Insurance Benefits:Employees and families are covered by medical (including vision), dental and basic life insurance. There are multiple medical plans with very affordable monthly premiums that offer coverage throughout Pierce County. Employees are eligible to enroll each year in a flexible spending plan, which enables them to use tax-deferred dollars toward their health care and dependent care expenses. Retirement and Deferred Compensation:Pierce County employees are members of the State of Washington's Department of Retirement System (DRS) and depending on the position or previous DRS enrollment will be able to enroll in one of many programs DRS offers. Employees also have the ability to participate in the Nationwide Deferred Compensation Plan. This is a supplemental retirement savings program that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
