ABOUT THE JOB:Join our Reception & Placement team as a Health Promotion intern! The Health Promotion intern will work closely with our Health team providing assistance with administrative tasks, supporting our Health staff in conducting individual assistance to clients within the public health sector, and being an active member of the IRC in Los Angeles' Health team. The Health Promotion intern will support the mission of the IRC by assisting clients in reaching self-sufficiency.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:Intern will gain a comprehensive understanding of public health principles and work with refugee communities.Intern will work alongside ahealth promotion team that will provideopportunities that will developstrong interpersonal skills including teamwork andleadership.Intern will learn to engage with diverse populations, adapt their communication styles to different audiences, and work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, community members.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Work closely with the Health Promotion Team staffHelp staff with transportation arrangements for clients with Health InsuranceAssist staff in conducting mental health questionnairesAssist staff with organizing Health Related workshopsHelp staff with administrative duties such as scanning, copying, and uploading to IRC's databaseBe punctual and attend health staff meetingsAdhere to the HIPAA policies all the timesIntern may be required to drive to help health team for Health Workshops
REQUIREMENTS:Fluency in Farsi, Dari, and/or Spanish highly desirableMust be culturally sensitive, respectful of diverse backgrounds, and willing to work with English language learners; previous cross-cultural communication experience is a plus.Educational background in social work or equivalent work experience serving low-to-moderate income immigrant populations (including refugees, asylum seekers, etc.) preferred.Flexibility, patience, and willingness to learn/perform reasonable duties as needed.Engaged in learning about the IRC mission, philosophy, global work, and local efforts.Willing to adhere to IRC volunteer workplace policies.
