Job Description
The University of North Texas (UNT) invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its next University Librarian and Vice Provost (ULVP). The University of North Texas is a Carnegie-ranked public R1 university, located in Denton, Texas and is the flagship of the UNT System. The University stands as the most comprehensive in the Dallas-Fort Worth region, offering 114 bachelor's, 87 master's, and 39 doctoral degree programs, many nationally and internationally recognized. UNT is designated as a Hispanic- and Minority-Serving Institution. Boasting 240-degree programs and a thriving community of more than 46,000 students, the fourth largest institution in Texas, UNT serves the North Texas region and helps drive the state’s economy through innovative research, educational excellence focused on career readiness, and a spirit of entrepreneurship. Together with its branch campus in Frisco, UNT students earned nearly 13,000 degrees last year. UNT recently entered a new era with the appointment of its 17th president, Dr. Harrison Keller, in August 2024. President Keller brings with him a deep commitment to advancing student success and elevating UNT's rich tradition of academic and research excellence.
The next University Librarian and Vice Provost will work with Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Michael McPherson (https://president.unt.edu/people/michael-mcpherson.html), the Provost's leadership team, and other partners across campus to ensure the Libraries serve as a critical partner and source of support for current and future educational and research priorities within the institution. The next ULVP will lead the Libraries through a strategic planning process to align the goals of the Libraries with those of the forthcoming strategic plan of the institution. The successful ULVP will navigate a challenging budget landscape, while prioritizing resources and support for the Libraries, advocating both internally and externally for additional funds.
The University Librarian and Vice Provost serves as the Libraries' chief administrative officer with overall responsibility for collection development and management; library services; budget and planning; application of emerging information technologies; personnel; fundraising; and external cooperative efforts. Reporting to the Provost, the ULVP acts as the official representative, advocate, and intellectual leader of the UNT Libraries and serves as a partner to the academic deans and UNT community members.

The successful University Librarian and Vice Provost will be a visionary leader who collaborates with University leadership, faculty, students, and staff, on and off campus. They will have strong administrative, budgetary, communication, and collaborative leadership skills and a strong commitment to students and their success.
