Job Description

The University of North Texas (UNT) invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its next University Librarian and Vice Provost (ULVP). The University of North Texas is a Carnegie-ranked public R1 university, located in Denton, Texas and is the flagship of the UNT System. The next University Librarian and Vice Provost will work with Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Michael McPherson (https://president.unt.edu/people/michael-mcpherson.html), the Provost's leadership team, and other partners across campus to ensure the Libraries serve as a critical partner and source of support for current and future educational and research priorities within the institution. The next ULVP will lead the Libraries through a strategic planning process to align the goals of the Libraries with those of the forthcoming strategic plan of the institution. The successful ULVP will navigate a challenging budget landscape, while prioritizing resources and support for the Libraries, advocating both internally and externally for additional funds.

The University Librarian and Vice Provost serves as the Libraries' chief administrative officer with overall responsibility for collection development and management; library services; budget and planning; application of emerging information technologies; personnel; fundraising; and external cooperative efforts. Reporting to the Provost, the ULVP acts as the official representative, advocate, and intellectual leader of the UNT Libraries and serves as a partner to the academic deans and UNT community members.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills

The successful University Librarian and Vice Provost will be a visionary leader who collaborates with University leadership, faculty, students, and staff, on and off campus. They will have strong administrative, budgetary, communication, and collaborative leadership skills and a strong commitment to students and their success.

A record of distinguished professional accomplishment and demonstrated administrative experience in research librarianship is required. A Master of Library Science (MLS/MLIS) degree from an American Library Association accredited program is preferred.
