HATCI (Hyundai America Technical Center) is looking for an intermediate-level UX designer + researcher who loves to find design inspiration from users, visualize UX design ideas, demonstrate the ideas with visual, multi-media, and immersive media, and set up the physical environment to test the ideas with users. This prototype specialist supports UX design for the future vehicles of Hyundai/Kia/Genesis.
You are expected to have high proficiency in creative media & design tools - from 2D and interface design, interactive media (web & game design), 3D modeling & VR/AR/MR stimulations, physical controls with sensors, and 4D time-based media. You are a tinkerer, an avid learner, and experimenter with emerging new mediums. You don’t hesitate to explore the possibilities for novel experiences and storytelling. You can create prototypes independently and in a timely manner to support the communication of UX problems and potential solutions effectively for the team’s decision-making.
Your motivation is always grounded in the value of users. You have a solid foundation of UX design principles and visual research methods by training and practice, not by name. You have a good story of your failures and how you learned from those experiences. You will demonstrate design thinking that links marketing, engineering/technology, and social/human science with a holistic approach to design in a fast-paced agile environment for the new mobility transition period involving electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and innovative transportation solutions.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Team player. You will support a team culture of empathy and understanding of user needs while balancing business decisions.Design thinker. You will move fast in the iterative process -- listening, ideation, prototyping, and evaluation in Agile practice.Human-centered researcher. You will define the problems and create solutions from the user’s perspective - and make judgments regarding when to focus on the individual or when to look at the universal human needs.Data-driven researcher. You will derive the implication for the design ideas based on the evidence - literature/previous work/competitor review/case studies/user studies with empirical data.UX designer. You will utilize the insights from the research to develop UX design prototypes in various settings and mediums. You will manage the just-right-amount level of fidelity by quickly analyzing the goal, requirements, and available resources -- from low-fidelity & high-fidelity prototypes for testing to presentation materials.Excellent Communicator. As a UX researcher, you excel in communication about research data and design ideas for internal and external collaborators. Well-organized; excellent verbal, written, AND visual communication.Occasional domestic/overseas travel is possible for user research events & tech shows up to 20% of the time.
Qualifications And Requirements
In addition to your resume, please submit a portfolio under "miscellaneous documents" with polished work examples of your direct involvement with:2D interface + interactive media design3D modeling and VR/AR/MR simulationsTime-based media - video demo reelAt least one example of a team project that you prototyping contribute to in the testing/validation of an iterative design process.Passion for automobile UX.Be open-minded and supportive of diversity.Bachelor’s degree in New Media Art Design or Industrial Design with HCI/UX foundations.Working history of at least 3 years of professional experience in the automobile industry as an interaction, interface, prototype, modeling designer.The ability to be flexible and inventive, using analytic and creative problem-solving approaches to design research and user testing.Excellent communication skills: verbal, written, visual, and presentation skills are a must.Excellent instruction design & documentation design skills such as MS Office - Excel, PowerPoint.Good visual design foundation including color theory, composition.Design & Prototyping tools: Figma, ProtoPie, Blender, Unity/ Real Engine, Gravity Sketch, Adobe Illustrator, Premier, After Effect, or any similar tools for 2D, 3D, Game, Media design. The portfolio should clearly describe the tools (and version) used.Basic web/interaction design: JavaScript (React), Processing, Python.(plus) Physical design: Arduino, or any driving simulator.
