Description
Join the team dedicated to conserving fish and wildlife resources in Kentucky. We’re looking for a graphic designer to create magazine pages, posters, promotional materials, logos and more in a variety of media for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. This is not strictly an office job, as you may be asked to paddle a kayak, visit a bat cave or join fellow employees conducting their research to generate photos and material for your layouts. We are seeking a creative, self-motivated person with a passion for Kentucky’s great outdoors.
Candidates must provide a portfolio of their work. Their examples should include print materials.
Job duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Creating layouts for Kentucky Afield, the department’s print magazine.
- Create photos and graphics as necessary. Coordinate work with other designers to produce final product.
- Create digital pages when necessary.
- Design work that may include posters, advertisements, fliers, reports, logos, patches, animations, cartoons, signage or other print or web-based material.
- Preparing materials for print publication.
- Correcting photo images as necessary, using Photoshop or other industry standard software. Working with printer to ensure colors are correct.
- Using digital camera equipment to create photos for a variety of projects, including magazine.
- Assist in management of the Digital Asset Management System.
- The candidate is self-motivated and hold themselves to high expectations.
- A keen attention to detail, excellent verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to use social media channels effectively.
- A 37.50-hour work week (with occasional overtime required)

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in graphic design, commercial art, studio art or a closely-related field.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of experience in graphic design.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in one of the above areas will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
