Job Summary The city of Grand Prairie Communication and Marketing Department seeks an intern to assist the Communications and Marketing Department with graphic design duties. Essential Job Functions Promotional graphics, logos/branding, writing, and website edits. Work with Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop software on PC. Work Monday - Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Provide customer service by giving information and directions as requested. Other duties or projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Must have a High School Diploma or GED and currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a bachelor's degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. No experience required Valid Texas Class C driver's license College student or recent graduate preferred who can work during the week. Some college classes in Marketing and Graphic Design is required. Valid Texas Class C driver's license and personal vehicle for which the city pays mileage when used for city business. Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesaurus and encyclopedias. Ability to analyze and interpret a wide range of written materials, including technical information and reference materials. Comfortable with traditional and digital formats including online databases and AI-driven research tools. Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, news releases and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar using all parts of speech. Ability to receive general direction: The employee normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. For city employees who are regular part time (10-19 hours per week) or seasonal hired placed on City payroll, the following benefits are provided:
- Public Agency Retirement System: the employee contributes 6.2% each paycheck to this retirement system and the city provides 1.3%. The employee does not pay into Social Security. All of the employees contributions may be withdrawn upon separating service from the city. The City's contributions will not be paid unless the employee retires under the system. Part time or seasonal employees are not eligible for any paid leave or other benefits. Part time or seasonal employees are limited to working only 1,000 hours per 12-month period, unless the seasonal is project based for a specific period of time which is typically less than 12-months.
