Mission: Waring School is a co-educational, college preparatory day school of 169 students,
grades 6-12 in Beverly, MA. Waring’s mission is “To create and sustain a community of lifelong
learners who are working together for the individual and common good.”
Summary: Waring School seeks an enthusiastic and collaborative teacher in Humanities /
Writing for middle and high school aged students. This position begins in August 2025. The position will be a 72%-84% position and will include the teaching of
two middle school Humanities classes (one 6th/7th grade Topics in African Studies class, one 8th
grade American History, Literature, and Civics class) and a 9th/10th grade Creative Writing
class. Depending on the experience of the candidate and the needs of the school, there may be
the possibility of taking on additional responsibilities in the community, such as: acting as an
academic advisor (called a ‘Tutor’), coaching athletics, teaching an Elective, leading/taking part
in other co-curricular activities such as Debate, Theater, etc.
Our classes are small and encourage collaboration and discussion. Our ideal candidate is a
lifelong learner who is passionate about teaching and sharing a love of Writing (creative), and
Humanities (history, literature, social studies) in our discussion-based classes.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Teaching two sections of middle school Humanities.
- Teaching one section of high school Writing.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in English or Social Sciences (other relevant Science field considered), with Master’s degree and/or two years teaching experience preferred but not required.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate adolescent learners and to work well with colleagues.
- Familiarity with Google suite, including Google classroom, preferred.
- Participation in annual all-school events such as Program Night, Graduation, Convocation.
- Participation in Experiential Learning aspects of our program, including Camping Trip and Endterm, as agreed upon based on FTE work percentage.
- Attendance at co-curricular aspects of our school program, e.g. All-School Meetings, as agreed upon based on FTE work percentage.
- Participation in Faculty Meetings and Professional Days, as agreed upon based on FTE work percentage.
