BiblioTemps is an employment service of the Massachusetts Library System that provides experienced library workers for temporary placements in public, academic, and special libraries throughout Massachusetts.
Title: Technical Services Librarian
Location: Worcester Polytechnic Institute, George C. Gordon Library
Position Type: Temporary
Start date: March 15, 2025
End date: August 31, 2025
Schedule: No more than 20 hours a week. Schedule hours flexible between Monday – Friday, 8AM – 4PM.
Pay Rate: $30.00 per hour

Description:
The Technical Services Librarian will work with the staff at WPI’s Gordon Library on the De-selection and collections analysis project: including the withdrawal of print materials from library collections and cataloging records (in Ex Libris/Alma) as well as from OCLC holdings.
Responsibilities:
- Search for OCLC records of monographs currently in collection with no OCLC numbers; overlay current records in Alma; add holdings to OCLC with WorldShare Record Manager.
- Maintain spreadsheets and assist with data management for ongoing withdrawal project.
- Catalog a small backlog of Special Collections books using Alma.
- Review and Update Serials records– including creating item records (in Alma) for print serials in the storage bay.
- Curate subject lists (e.g. probability/statistics; various humanities disciplines; data science) of OER (Open Educational Resources) materials and add them to LibGuide (Springshare).
Qualifications
Required Skills and Abilities:
- At least 2 years of experience in cataloging/technical services.
- Experience working with Library Management System – Alma.
- Fluency in cataloging standards (RDA, AACR2, LCSH) and encoding standards (MARC21).
- Experience and knowledge of OCLC WorldShare.
Qualifications:
• Required: Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school. Training and/or experience may be substituted for part of the educational requirements.
