GENERAL PURPOSE
The Library Technician-Information Commons assists students in a busy open lab environment. They oversee access to study rooms, help students with Microsoft Office and Google Docs software, answer basic reference questions, and manage the Library's social media accounts. This person must be energetic, service-oriented, tech-savvy, and able to coordinate with Information Technology department personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage study rooms: Monitors and approves or rejects study room booking requests, maintains the online room-booking software, checks students in and out of study rooms, handles disputes, and ensures that study rooms are kept in good condition. Managing this limited resource requires tact, fairness and the ability to remain calm when dealing with stressed out or impolite students.Assists students with software and hardware needs: In cooperation with onsite IT Department personnel, helps students use MS Office and Google Docs software and troubleshoot hardware issues. This responsibility requires high proficiency in the use of Windows PC's, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and scanners, along with the basic ability to troubleshoot technology problems.Provides reference assistance/direction: Answers reference questions in-person and via telephone, chat, and email, or refers students to other Library personnel or campus departments (such as the Writing Center) when appropriate. Also keeps statistics on student traffic and types of assistance requested. The Library Technician-Information Commons must be functionally familiar with available library resources as well as campus facilities, departments, and services.Maintains Library's social media presence: Updates and maintains the Library's social media accounts e.g., Facebook, Instagram, etc. Suggests and uploads new contact to build social media traffic, and responds to queries received through these channels.Special projects as assigned: May be asked to help with library projects, such as LibGuides maintenance, collection development, surveys, etc.

SALARY INFORMATION
When determining the salary offer for a new employee, Molloy considers several key characteristics such as job knowledge, skills, and experience as well as internal and external equity. The hiring hourly rate for this position is $19.38 to $20.00/hour. This hiring pay rate represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of compensation at the time of posting.
