Summary: To provide an approved education program and establish a class environment that fosters learning and personal growth; to help pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education; and to maintain good relationships with parents and other staff members.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
- New Jersey Standard Teaching Certification (CE, CEAS) with subject matter specialization: Music.
- Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of grade specific school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught.
- Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school related matters.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work; parents, students, and faculty.
Prior to employment, the following must be addressed:
- Complete a criminal history background check.
- Provide evidence of adequate health to fulfill job functions.
- Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test.
- Meet alternatives to the above qualifications as the CEO finds appropriate.
Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials.
- Requires the ability to work in noisy and crowded environments.

- Occasionally requires work outdoors dealing with school activities.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Class management and instruction.
- Works to achieve state core curriculum content standards and charter school educational goals by promoting active learning and skills development.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials.
- Sets specific objectives in lesson preparation and weekly lesson plans.
- Assesses pupil academic progress and personal growth.
- Maintains records of pupil's educational progress.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior.
- Budgets class time effectively.
- Communicates with parents about the music program and pupil progress.
- Devises written and oral assignments and tests.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities.
- Ensures cleanliness of the music practice area.
Meetings and Professional Development:
- Maintains professional competence through inservice education and other activities.
- Participates in school-level planning and faculty meetings.
- Makes effective use of community resources.
- Upholds and enforces school rules and regulations.
Fulfills the following duties specific to music instruction:
- Instruct pupils in music appreciation and performance fundamentals.
- Prepare lesson plans including music appreciation and performance.
- Select instruments and materials for courses.
- Demonstrate methods and procedures to pupils.
- Observe and evaluate pupils' work.
- Accompany pupils on field trips to musical presentations.
- Instruct pupils in virtual trips to concert halls.
- Specialize in teaching music theory, music history, and various musical instruments.
- Organize and conduct winter and spring concerts.
- Implement teaching methods such as Kodály and Orff.
- Plan and supervise student contests.
- Collaborate with physical education instructors for rehearsals.
- Determine individual musical strengths for performances.
- Assist with videotaping performances.
- Make recommendations for improvements to musical presentations.
- Perform other assigned duties within the scope of employment.
Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
Equipment: Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers and telephones.
Travel Requirements: Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards: Works in standard office and school environments.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with New Jersey state law and iLearn Schools Inc. board policies.
Reports to: School Director and Music Curriculum Chair.
Terms of Employment: Ten month employee.
