Job Overview:
The Public Relations Strategist is responsible for successfully leading and managing the agency's public relations accounts. The professional is a mature leader who works to attract new and grow existing client accounts.
Responsibilities and Duties:
The Public Relations Strategist’s responsibilities are to:
Client Service & Account Management
- Oversee and manage strategic public relations and marketing programs for B2B and B2C clients in industries including economic development, manufacturing, health care, engineering, nonprofit, education, and tourism
- Serve as the main point of contact on assigned client accounts
- Direct activity on assigned accounts, communicating with clients on direction, progress, and forward momentum
- Effectively present agency work to clients and support other team members in presentations
- Collaborate with team members to deliver a high-touch client experience and monitor client satisfaction
- Ensure accountability for the financial and relational health of client business to the agency
- Contribute to and oversee administrative tasks such as coordination/distribution of client projects, agenda preparation, and conference report documentation
- Lead client meetings and participate in internal team meetings
Execution & Project Coordination
- Execute strategies and take ownership of hands-on execution of PR and marketing tactics, including writing and editing for public relations, social media, email marketing, advertising, marketing, and websites
- Route projects and client requests for effective workflow within the agency’s project management software
- Create project timelines, tasks, and milestones based on resources, scope of work, and priority
- Ensure all project documentation follows established processes and is reviewed/approved internally and externally before release
- Assist in the coordination and execution of client events
- Lead internal account campaign and project briefings to provide background and direction on projects
Content Development & Media Relations
- Develop innovative, creative ideas using thorough research to impact clients’ bottom lines
- Build client and media relationships by maintaining a network of contacts, including journalists and industry spokespeople
- Develop news angles, story ideas, guest columns, and media pitches to elevate client visibility
- Write communication plans, creative materials, PR and media outreach materials, blogs, email content, advertisements, editorial features, and guest columns with precision and strategic intent
Strategy & Business Development
- Lead strategy and planning for client accounts, including writing and implementing PR and marketing plans
- Analyze campaign results and provide strategic reports and insights to clients
- Build relationships with new and existing clients to foster account growth beyond the current scope
- Assist in developing and implementing the agency’s PR and marketing strategy, including branding and content across social, digital, events, public relations, and more
- Identify and vet PR and marketing opportunities for the agency
- Understand the agency’s services and ideal client profile
- Ensure consistent and effective communication internally and externally to maintain alignment and productivity
Agency Culture & Leadership
- Build long-term, trusting relationships with leadership, clients, partners, and team members
- Contribute to a positive agency culture that promotes creativity, boldness, collaboration, leadership, and purpose
- Openly participate in brainstorming and problem-solving to support agency innovation and growth
- Build and strengthen the agency’s brand and reputation
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications or related field, accreditation in public relations is a plus
- 5+ years of experience, 2 years of experience in an agency setting preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Progressive career growth and understanding of strategic, integrated communications in an agency setting
- Thorough understanding of AP Style
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and common computer skills
- Calendar management and scheduling experience
- Hands-on experience in developing strategic business plans
- In-depth knowledge of market changes and forces that influence the company
- Familiarity with management best practices
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Outstanding communication, presentation and leadership skills
- Superior quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
- Skilled problem solver who keeps calm and efficient under pressure and crisis
Physical Requirements
Candidates must be able to travel and meet with clients in person and via conference/video call as needed and be present on-site at the agency’s main office in Daphne, AL 3-4 days per week.
