Job Description
Title: UX Researcher [Temp to Perm]
Reports To: Director, User Experience and Design Ops
Location: Home Based Office (US)
Status: Part Time; Non-Exempt (20 Hours @ Hourly Rate: $100 - $130/hour)
We are seeking a part-time contract (3-6 month) to full-time permanent hire for this position.
Facing History & Ourselves is a global education non-profit organization that challenges teachers and students to use lessons of history to stand up to racism, antisemitism, and other forms of bigotry and hate.
Position Description: The UX Researcher is a key contributor in designing and improving user-centered digital experiences that serve Facing History’s diverse audience of educators, students, and supporters. This role combines deep expertise in UX research, strategy, and analytics to align user experiences with organizational goals and audience needs.
You will lead the design, execution, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative research methods to uncover actionable insights, ensuring that user engagement metrics improve across facinghistory.org and connected platforms. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, your role will advocate for accessibility, equity, and inclusion while driving innovation and continuous improvement across the user journey.

You Will:
User Experience Research (70%)
Lead UX research initiatives, including usability testing, A/B testing, surveys, and user interviews, to gather actionable insights.
Develop and maintain user personas and journey maps to support a shared understanding of our audience across teams.
Identify research opportunities to better understand user behaviors, pain points, and preferences, aligning findings with organizational goals.
Collaborate with content teams to ensure user research informs content strategy and information architecture.
Create and manage user testing schedules, recruit participants, and ensure diverse representation in studies.
Use behavioral analytics tools like Google Analytics, Hotjar, or Optimizely to identify pain points and opportunities for improvements across the digital experience.
Support product roadmapping, sprint planning, and reporting efforts to ensure organizational strategies and initiatives have appropriate KPIs in place as appropriate measures of success.
Publish regularly updated reporting that helps support cross-team efforts while keeping key stakeholders informed on the effectiveness and progress across our digital experiences.
Partner with designers and developers to prototype and iterate on solutions informed by research insights.
Build and maintain a centralized library of research insights and findings for organizational reference.
Advocate ?for user-centered design and data-driven principles in decision-making processes across the organization.
Advocacy and Collaboration (30%)
Lead workshops with cross-functional teams to share research findings and brainstorm potential solutions.
Build partnerships with other teams to advocate for integrating user research into decision-making processes.
Represent the organization in external forums or conferences to showcase the impact of a user-centered approach.
Mentor colleagues in research methodologies and foster a shared understanding of the value of UX research.

Essential Skills, Qualifications and Competencies:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent professional experience). Advanced technical or business knowledge preferred.
5–7 years of experience in UX research and strategy, ideally in nonprofit or education settings.
Hands-on experience with end-to-end UX research projects, including qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
Proficiency in agile methodologies and tools such as Figma, Sketch, and Miro.
Familiarity with SEO/SEM, HubSpot, and behavioral analytics tools.
Expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methods, including usability testing, A/B testing, and behavioral analytics.
Proven ability to turn user insights into actionable strategies that enhance product and organizational outcomes.
Strong leadership in cross-departmental collaborations, aligning UX strategies with broader organizational goals.
Experience with analytics and visualization tools, such as Google Analytics, Tableau, Looker, Hotjar, Optimizely, and familiarity with Salesforce and Drupal.
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong project management skills, with a track record of delivering on time, within scope, and under budget.

Remote-first/Hybrid Work Model: Facing History and Ourselves operates in a remote-first/hybrid work model, allowing staff flexibility in both schedules and work locations. This particular position is home-based. Some travel is required.
Temporary to Permanent Position: Facing History anticipates a 3-6 month contract position, with the intention of ultimately hiring a candidate into a permanent role. The salary range for the full-time, exempt (IC3/B7) position is $105,000 - $125,000. Additional information on broader benefits can be shared during the interview process.
