The Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM) is committed to advocating for policy that meets the scale and urgency of our environmental challenges. We are recruiting a Communications Manager primarily to support New England for Offshore Wind (NE4OSW), a broad-based coalition advancing responsible offshore wind development to power New England’s future with clean energy. The Communications Manager will be an integral member of a collegial and effective advocacy team within ELM and will work closely with and support key NE4OSW communications initiatives. The Communications Manager will support strategic communications for ELM and NE4OSW partners, while working across departments and partner organizations to ensure communications strategies and materials help coalition members implement regional coalition priorities. Job Responsibilities Coalition Communications Draft and coordinate the production of an informative monthly newsletter, developing and designing educational content to increase engagement. Manage coalition website, ensuring that timely, accurate, and compelling information about offshore wind is available to partners and the public. Collaborate with ELM staff on development of NE4OSW social media campaigns. Design fact sheets and presentations in line with NE4OSW’s strategic communications plan. Ensure quality and accuracy of staff-generated content by proofreading, editing, and designing communications materials. Ensure communications products and language align with coalition priorities. Design Develop creative and engaging graphics that convey educational content and advocacy messages. Craft appealing communications products to capture the attention of key coalition audiences. Maintain a library of coalition graphics and communications-related elements, such as templates, logos, letterhead, and photos. Collaborate with Senior Digital Media Coordinator to create and place digital ads and other paid media advertising, targeted to maximize impact and effectiveness. Track and review campaign performance; adapt tactics as needed. Coalition Partner Support Collaborate with NE4OSW partners to develop innovative subgrant proposals for communications campaigns that amplify the coalition’s mission and priorities. Analyze the performance of partner-led campaigns to provide actionable insights that help optimize and achieve communications goals. Foster relationships with NE4OSW partners to build a collaborative and responsive communications network. Additional Responsibilities Collaborate with communications staff on dynamic communications products across ELM’s target sectors. Qualifications Required Passion for NE4OSW’s Mission, Vision, and Values. Understanding of the energy transition or desire to learn quickly. Commitment to centering racial justice and equity in ELM and NE4OSW’s work and ensuring an inclusive organizational culture. Exceptional digital media management skills, with demonstrated website management experience. Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with demonstrated experience working with members of the press, and writing press releases, press statements, Letters to the Editor/Op-Eds, and content for websites and social media. Ability to prioritize and effectively manage tasks in a fast-paced work environment; strong organizational skills; demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of their time as needed. Passion for people and coalition work and experience balancing competing priorities. Preferred Understanding of U.S. offshore wind energy industry status and issues. Experience with WordPress, Google Analytics, Canva, and EveryAction. While the role is typically 40 hours per week, given the work, the Manager will periodically be expected to work during evenings and weekends and will have periods of heightened activity. The position can be based in any New England state and will require periodic travel within New England, including to ELM’s Boston office. We are willing to be flexible to accommodate remote work and a flexible schedule if requested. Salary Range: $70,000-$75,000 depending on experience.
