Here's what we offer to prospective students: award-winning faculty and an outstanding technical and administrative staff; a 'best-in-the-west' combination of facilities for creating, exhibiting, and researching art across various media; a commitment to fostering creative and critical thinking; opportunities to innovate across different media; and a friendly and supportive community.Brief Description of DutiesThe Department of Art and Art History at San Jose State University is searching for part-time faculty to teach undergraduate courses, particularly in Renaissance, Baroque, or Asian Art History. In addition, the candidate should also be able to teach lower-division, general survey courses, including the introduction to design history (ARTH 72) and/or the introduction to visual culture (ARTH 15). The successful candidate will teach within a dynamic department that encourages cross-disciplinary practice between art history, art practice, and art education.Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity-including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation-through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).Required QualificationsPh.D. degree in Art History or related area and teaching experience at the university level is required. Strong writing skills and an ability to direct and assess student writing is an asset. Also, candidates ought to demonstrate scholarly engagement in their area of interest as evidenced by a record of presentation and publication. Ability to evaluate adult learners. Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.CompensationCompensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. Anticipated starting salary:L-A: $4530 - $5405L-B: $5405 - $6786L-C: $6190 - $8554L-D: $7794 - $9385Range salaries above are the anticipated monthly salary rate of full-time AY faculty--part-time rates are prorated.
