SCHOOL LIBRARY MEDIA COORDINATOR (076) JOB DESCRIPTION
CERTIFICATION: Must hold a valid Professional Educator License as a Media Coordinator at the Master Level or be eligible for a provisional Media Coordinator License.
To be eligible for a provisional Media Coordinator license one of the following is required:must hold at a minimum a bachelor level teaching license ORhave a bachelor degree in media ORthe completion of 18 graduate semester hours applicable towards a school media coordinator program
A provisional license holder must affiliate with a college or university with an approved School Media Coordinator program at the Master level. In addition to courses, the State Board of Education requires the Praxis II test for Media Coordinator to be passed by the end of the coursework through Educational Testing Service (ETS). All requirements for a provisional license must be completed within 5 years.

REPORTS TO: Principal and District Level Supervisor
SUPERVISES: Coordinates and directs the activities of school library media support personnel such as library media assistants, technical assistants, student assistants, and/or volunteers
Roles and Responsibilities
Leader - School library media coordinators demonstrate leadership.Collaboratively creates, aligns and implements a program informed by state and national guidelines and research-based best practicesProvides leadership in collaboratively planning, promoting, and sustaining the school library media program, services, and resourcesEstablishes the library media center as both a physical and virtual shared space, open, equitable and accessible for knowledge construction, collaboration and inquiry-based learningProvides leadership in creating digital age learning environmentsParticipates in and/or leads the development and implementation of the school improvement planParticipates in the recruitment hiring process and/or mentoring of school-based educatorsWorks collaboratively with school personnel for strategic planning, to create professional learning communities, and to integrate information and instructional technology into all curricular areasModels and leads digital teaching and learning concepts and strategiesParticipates in and/or leads a Professional Learning Community and/or School Improvement TeamProvides professional development on integrating information and instructional technology into all curricular areasAdvocates for effective library media programsProvides leadership in communicating the impact of the library media program on twenty-first century content and skillsModels high ethical standards and educates students, teachers, and other members of the school community to use best practices in copyright, ethical access and use of resources, intellectual property, and digital citizenshipPartners with other libraries and community organizations to promote the use of best practices in copyright, ethical access and use of resources, intellectual property, and digital citizenship
