Position: Nursing Assistant

University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Nursing Assistant to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the supervision of Registered Nurses.

Responsibilities include:

1. Demonstrate understanding and proficiency in using Tele-sitter software.
2. Maintain visual observation at all times.
3. Verbally redirect patients over digital 2-way audio devices.
4. Immediately summon nursing staff if assistance is needed.
5. Provide appropriate care based on the patient's treatment plan, delegated by the RN.
6. Participate in hand-offs of patient information at shift change.
7. Coordinate meal breaks with nurses, informing them before leaving the monitoring station.
8. Explain procedures to patients without counseling or giving opinions.
9. Demonstrate Service Excellence behaviors.
10. Seek help if a patient poses a threat to themselves or others.
11. Report patient safety issues collaboratively.
12. Assist in removing safety hazards and report findings.
13. Follow safety practices and participate in safety programs.
14. Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals.
15. Implement care plans under RN supervision, considering patient condition and age.
16. Observe and report changes in patients’ physical conditions.
17. Assemble equipment for diagnostic or treatment procedures.
18. Perform simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as assigned.
19. Use computer functions within role scope.
20. Implement measures to prevent complications and report incidents.
21. Maintain patient privacy and follow infection control policies.
22. Assist during emergencies within scope of practice.
23. Perform additional tasks as assigned.
24. Participate in staff meetings and in-services.
25. Meet annual competency review guidelines.
26. Apply Service Leadership principles for positive patient relations.
27. Adhere to policies on personal conduct, appearance, attendance, and punctuality.

Work Details:

• Percent of Time: 50%-100%
• Schedule: Day/Evening, alternate weekends and holidays, no on-call
• Location: University Campus, Iowa City, IA
