Position: Nursing Assistant
University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Nursing Assistant to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the supervision of Registered Nurses.
Responsibilities include:
- Demonstrate understanding and proficiency in using Tele-sitter software.
- Maintain visual observation at all times.
- Verbally redirect patients over digital 2-way audio devices.
- Immediately summon nursing staff if assistance is needed.
- Provide appropriate care based on the patient's treatment plan, delegated by the RN.
- Participate in hand-offs of patient information at shift change.
- Coordinate meal breaks with nurses, informing them before leaving the monitoring station.
- Explain procedures to patients without counseling or giving opinions.
- Demonstrate Service Excellence behaviors.
- Seek help if a patient poses a threat to themselves or others.
- Report patient safety issues collaboratively.
- Assist in removing safety hazards and report findings.
- Follow safety practices and participate in safety programs.
- Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals.
- Implement care plans under RN supervision, considering patient condition and age.
- Observe and report changes in patients’ physical conditions.
- Assemble equipment for diagnostic or treatment procedures.
- Perform simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as assigned.
- Use computer functions within role scope.
- Implement measures to prevent complications and report incidents.
- Maintain patient privacy and follow infection control policies.
- Assist during emergencies within scope of practice.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
- Participate in staff meetings and in-services.
- Meet annual competency review guidelines.
- Apply Service Leadership principles for positive patient relations.
- Adhere to policies on personal conduct, appearance, attendance, and punctuality.
Work Details:
- Percent of Time: 50%-100%
- Schedule: Day/Evening, alternate weekends and holidays, no on-call
- Location: University Campus, Iowa City, IA
