Administrative Associate Dean and Director of the Law Library
The University of California, Irvine School of Law invites applications for the Law Librarian (Director of the Law Library). We seek a visionary and accomplished library administrator with a demonstrated record as a leader managing a world-class law library.
The Law Librarian will oversee all law library services to ensure the highest levels of service to students and faculty, including, among other duties:
- Administration of the law library and staff;
- Directing the operations of the law library;
- Implementing the strategic vision for the law library;
- Developing library services, collections, and technology consistent with evolving faculty, student, and administrative needs;
- Teaching, as needed, introductory research courses;
- Service on faculty standing committees;
- Working collaboratively with librarians to build and maintain appropriate library print and digital collections;
- Keeping current on emerging issues and trends in academic law libraries and law schools, particularly emphasizing the application of new technologies to teaching, learning, and research.
The Law Library works closely with the UC Irvine Libraries to ensure effective library services for collaborative academic programs and interdisciplinary research, including integrated library systems, and ensures that they are sufficient to meet the needs of students and faculty. The Law Librarian is responsible for ensuring that the law library continues to meet the accreditation standards of the American Bar Association and membership requirements of the Association of American Law Schools.
Applicants must have outstanding credentials, including a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school, an M.L.S. (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program, and significant experience in law library administration at a major research university. Experience operating in the University of California system is strongly preferred. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
