Kitsap Regional Library seeks a highly motivated, innovative and dynamic Youth Services Librarian for the Little Boston location. The ideal candidate is passionate about providing excellent service to youth from birth through sixth grade, with an emphasis on early literacy, STEM, developing relationships with schools and community partners, and managing volunteers. This position works in collaboration with the library system's Youth Services Team. The ideal candidate must have knowledge of developmental stages, social media platforms, current trends in library services, and literature for children.

GENERAL DESCRIPTIONUnder limited supervision, the Youth Services Librarian position is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing library services, programs, outreach and education within the library and for the community. This position leads and supports the library's mission, vision and values. Work is performed with significant opportunities for exercising independent judgment and initiative. This position is represented by the Washington Public Employees Association/UFCW local 365.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCEMaster of Library Science Degree from an American Library Association accredited school and Washington State certification as a librarian or ability to obtain an MLS degree within three months of employment start date.
Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver's license.

BENEFITS & SALARYEmployees regularly scheduled 20 or more hours per week are eligible to participate in our medical, dental, vision, basic life, AD&D, long term disability insurance plans, health reimbursement arrangement (HRA), as well as our employee assistance program. Additionally, Librarians earn 25 days of vacation leave, 13 days of sick leave, and 1 personal day each year. All accrued time off is pro-rated for part-time employees.
Kitsap Regional Library participates in the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Employees are automatically eligible for the plan if they work a minimum of 16.25 hours per week (or 70 hour per month) during five months per year for two consecutive years.
Offers to new employees are expected to be between $33.37 and $36.47 depending on required and relevant experience and in alignment with internal equity. The full compensation range for this position is $33.37 - 46.19 per hour per year which includes compensation for incumbents with significant tenure at our library. This allows for growth and progression within the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAny of the following duties may be performed. These examples are not necessarily performed by all incumbents, however, and do not include all specific tasks an incumbent may be expected to perform.
DUTIES:
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of professional library principles, research expertise, reader's advisory, outreach and presentation skills.
- Demonstrates skill in mentoring all levels of library employees by communicating the mission, vision and values of the organization in a compelling and inspiring way, modeling desired behaviors, and providing an encouraging environment through ongoing interactions, coaching, teaching and role modeling.
- Presents programs and/or classes and events for youth audiences so that they educate, inform and inspire.
- Plans, implements and evaluates library programs and services which fulfill the diverse academic and personal needs of local youth and their caregivers.
- Instructs youth and caregivers in information gathering, research skills and information literacy skills.
- Establishes liaisons with various organizations within the community through partnerships, presentations and embedded librarianship in order to promote library services for youth.
- Demonstrates the ability to organize youth and activities through project management.
- Continuously seek out emerging trends in education and youth development that have the capacity to inform and direct library collections, services and programs for youths.
- Embraces innovation and experimentation. Recommends thoughtful change to help the library stay relevant and vital.
- Works with branch and service center staff on evaluating collections for weeding, replacements and reallocations as necessary.
- Maintains special collections.
- Keeps current with library trends and emerging technologies by attending conferences and participating in professional organizations and committees.
- May assist in the preparation of grant applications or other funding requests.
- May author professional articles for publication.
- Assumes responsibility for the operation of the branch in the absence of a manager. May be responsible for supervision of staff and/or projects.
- Performs additional duties as assigned including serving on task forces, committees, etc.
- Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Knowledge of program management; ability to plan, organize, direct and administer a major library service program or collection.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, patrons, user groups, community organizations, volunteer groups and to serve the public courteously.
- Ability to recognize and set priorities, and to use initiative and independent judgment in a variety of situations.
- Ability to learn and stay current with emerging technology, including digital media.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, perform required data entry proficiently and utilize computer software and specialized programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and to demonstrate professional level public speaking skills.
- Ability to work a varied schedule including evenings and weekends.

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is required to:
- (CONTINUOUS) seeing, talking, walking, hearing, standing, bending, grasping, reaching, handling and manual dexterity.
- (FREQUENT) sitting, kneeling, stooping, crouching, twisting, squatting, keyboarding and repetitive motion of hands/wrists.
- (OCCASIONAL) climbing, crawling and balancing.
- Must be able to sort, unpack, lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds.
- Regularly requires the ability to push, pull and maneuver a loaded book cart (20 pounds of push/pull force) on a frequent basis over an extended period of time.

This is a part-time, non-exempt 34 hour per week position. Schedules are subject to change to meet the needs of the library. The anticipated schedule for this position is Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 9 AM to 6 PM and Fridays 9 AM to 5 PM, with one Saturday a month from 9 AM to 2 PM.
