About the Role & Team
Disney Live Entertainment creates, produces, and delivers engaging entertainment experiences at Disney theme parks, resorts, cruise ships, and other locations worldwide. Our diverse team includes technical directors, writers, lighting designers, choreographers, cosmetologists, and music producers, all bringing magical worlds to life with creativity and technical expertise.
The Senior Concept Artist & Illustrator collaborates on live entertainment concepts, using visual storytelling through illustration, fine art, and graphic design. The role involves creating visual narratives for characters and worlds, working closely with various Disney teams.
This is a full-time salaried position reporting to the Manager of the Art Studio.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate superior visual storytelling skills across various methods such as sketches, storyboards, mood boards, environments, character sketches, and digital paintings.
- Collaborate with Art Directors, Show Directors, and other partners.
- Work independently on assigned projects.
- Support design efforts for non-entertainment partners.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients and departments.
- Estimate labor for projects.
- Handle projects of varying scales, from intimate to spectacular.
- Assist in project tasking and resource allocation.
- Mentor team members, promoting professionalism and artistic standards.
Qualifications & Skills:
- At least 3 years of experience in design, fine arts, or animation.
- Excellent hand drawing and sketching skills.
- Proficiency in various art styles.
- Strong knowledge of Disney characters and brand consistency.
- Experience mentoring other artists.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop).
- Ability to stay current with industry trends.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Sculpting experience in 2D and 3D tools.
- Experience in animation and character design.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in fine arts, visual arts, graphic arts, or equivalent.
