About Our District & Band Program
Knox City-O'Brien CISD is a rural school district in West Texas with a deep tradition of excellence—in academics, athletics, and especially in music education. Serving approximately 195 students PK3–12, our 6–12 secondary campus is home to about 90 students and a high-achieving band program with a history of statewide success.
Our band has proudly:
- Advanced to the UIL State Marching Band Contest multiple times,
- Placed 4th in the state in the most recent appearance,
- Earned consistent UIL Sweepstakes Awards in Marching, Concert, and Sight Reading.
We are looking for a passionate, driven, and skilled Band Director/Music Teacher who can build on this legacy and continue inspiring excellence through music.
Position Overview
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music education and marching band leadership, a commitment to student success, and a collaborative spirit. You’ll be leading and mentoring talented students who are excited to learn and perform—supported by a community that takes pride in its band program.
Responsibilities
- Direct and manage the Knox City Secondary Band Program (grades 6–12)
- Lead all aspects of the marching and concert band seasons, including contest preparation
- Coordinate and supervise band performances at UIL events, football games, pep rallies, parades, and community events
- Provide engaging music instruction in both group and individual settings
- Maintain equipment, instruments, and inventory
- Collaborate with staff, parents, and community to promote program growth and student achievement
- Manage budget and coordinate fundraising efforts as needed
- Ensure student eligibility and adherence to UIL and district policies
Qualifications
- Valid Texas Teaching Certification in Music (EC–12 or All-Level Music)
- Demonstrated success in leading competitive marching and concert band programs
- Knowledge of UIL rules and procedures, marching and concert band pedagogy
- Strong classroom and rehearsal management skills
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities
- High energy, creativity, and a love for rural education and student development
