Job Description: The Technical Director will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of both manufacturing locations (Lakeland, FL & Pompano Beach, FL) with primarily architectural paint development, ensuring product quality, compliance with industry standards, and driving innovation by leading research & development efforts focused on water-based coatings formulations and technologies. We are looking for a leader who is curious and constantly exploring new material and technologies, self-starter, while collaborating closely with sales, marketing, and production teams to meet market needs and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Develop, improve, and customize products, equipment, formulas, processes, and test methods.
2.  Identify, evaluate and implement technologies used by suppliers and competitors to maintain a competitive edge and enhance product performance.
3. Assess raw materials, processes and equipment to optimize product development and production efficiency.
4. Troubleshoot production problems and correct the batches to the quality standard.
5. Implement Training programs to enhance performance and skill level of the staff. Provide mentorship to team members to inspire high levels of performance.
6. Document and maintain accurate records and write reports on all R&Ds projects.
7. Quality Assurance: Work with QC to optimize product specifications.        
8.  Training staff and customers on new products and application methods and technical support by phone or in the field.
9. Troubleshooting customer complaints and problem jobs in the field, reviewing customer inputs
10. Provide guidance and technical information to Product Manager in preparing Technical Data Sheets and SDS’s for all products.
11. Reports to and coordinate with the ERC President on priority projects and new formulations 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

1. Waterborne coatings experience
2. Strong analytical skills and communication skills. Collaborative team player
3. Must be able to multitask between projects
4.  An in-depth understanding of polymer Chemistry, knowledge of raw materials and Technology Platforms
5.  Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical Engineering or higher preferred
6.  Familiar with OSHA requirements, Regulatory V.O.C laws of States, hazmat and safety regulations
7.   Proficient MS Office and ERP software
8.  Must be willing to drive to both locations monthly (Lakeland, FL & Pompano Beach, FL)

Physical Demands:

1. May include the ability to process all steps of batch making to assist training.
2. Small labs at both locations, open warehouses, cubicle office area.

Salary Range: Between $125-150K for Technical Director depending on their experience level and if they have waterborne chemistry background
