Bishop Montgomery High School is a Catholic, college-preparatory secondary school based out of 5430 Torrance Blvd, Torrance, California, United States.
We are seeking a knowledgeable, resourceful, and student-focused High School Librarian to manage and develop our school library. The ideal candidate will foster a love for reading, support curriculum delivery through information literacy, and provide a welcoming and organized learning environment. This role combines library management with collaborative teaching, integrating digital and print resources to support academic success and lifelong learning.
Responsibilities:
Manage the day-to-day operations of the school library, including circulation, cataloging, and collection development.
Support students and faculty in locating and using library resources effectively, both physical and digital.
Promote reading and literacy through book talks, reading programs, author visits, and library displays.
Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into classroom instruction and design information literacy lessons.
Instruct students on research techniques, citation standards, digital literacy, and responsible internet use.
Maintain an up-to-date, diverse, and inclusive collection aligned with the school's curriculum and interests of students.
Oversee library technology, including databases, eBooks, and multimedia tools.
Supervise and train student library aides or volunteers.
Enforce library rules and policies to maintain a safe, quiet, and inclusive environment.
Stay current on educational trends, library systems, and new technologies relevant to library services.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Library Science, Information Science, Education, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
Valid state certification as a School Librarian or equivalent credential (or willingness to obtain).
Experience working in a school or educational library setting is highly preferred.
Strong knowledge of library systems (e.g., Destiny, Follett, or similar catalog systems).
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to engage and inspire students with diverse learning needs and interests.
Familiarity with current educational technologies and digital resources.
