Under the supervision of the Wellesley High School Librarians, Building Principal and the Director of Libraries, the Instructional Library Assistant positively interacts with students, faculty, and staff and is responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of the library. The ILA assists students, faculty, and staff in the use of educational and technical resources offered by the library and works independently to provide efficient and effective delivery of information services; handles material circulation, operates, understands and demonstrates the online library automation system, and works to ensure student compliance with library policies and procedures.
JOB TITLE: Instructional Library Assistant
JOB GOAL: To assist the school librarian in the full utilization of services, materials and resources offered to students, faculty, and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to perform and take responsibility for tasks with limited supervision;
- Assume responsibility for a major segment of the library's day to day operations, including clerical tasks, with limited supervision
- Experience with the use of computers, library automation systems, internet, social media, and emerging technologies as well as office equipment (photocopiers, laminators, etc.)
- Ability to multi-task and work well as a team member
- Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions
- Ability to take initiative and complete tasks independently where necessary
- Possess strong communication and organizational skills
- Experience in a school library setting and/or working with students preferred
- Familiarity with PC, Mac, and Chromebook platforms preferred
- Familiarity with Google Docs and other Google platform apps preferred
- 4 Year college degree preferred
- High School diploma or equivalent with education/experience mix as determined by the Director of Libraries.
- Design experience, ie, Canva, is preferred. Examples welcome.
Under the supervision of the school librarian, the ILA works independently to provide, in a professional manner, high-quality library services in the following categories (responsibilities may include but are not limited to):
Interaction with Students, Faculty and Staff
- Maintain an academic atmosphere in the library and develop positive relationships with students and staff
- Assist students, faculty, and staff in:
- Routine location of library resources including print, electronic and equipment,
- The use of library equipment, the library automation system and the library website
- Library material circulation
- Maintain the oversight of the shelving and storage of all resources, including importing new records, shelf reading, etc.
- Maintain the accuracy of the of the collection database (library automation system), catalog and process new resources in a timely fashion
- Track and send out overdue notices
- Publicize new materials to school population through displays and digital means
- Support student and faculty technology projects, ie. importing graphics, scanning, using makerspace tools, copying, and troubleshooting printing issues
