Description

Position Description: The goal of the Communication Ministry of First Pres is to develop and protect the brand of First Pres and tell our story joyfully to our church and our city. The Director of Communication produces an organization-wide Strategic Communications strategy integrating and aligning the ministry goals of First Pres as well as the individual goals of the various ministries of First Pres. Attending to the Discipleship Pathway as a framework through which to view the constituents (audience) of First Pres (Community, Participant, Worshiper, Disciple, Active Disciple), the Director of Communication works with the Executive Director and ministry directors to develop various strategies, using existing material, ministry programs and new material to provide a strategy that consistently and effectively brands First Pres in Colorado Springs. The Director of Communication must have exceptional organization and communication skills, have a strong understanding of the First Pres and Colorado Springs environment and have the ability to develop and integrate branding, marketing, research/strategy, strategic communications, campaign development, messaging, project management and business development. In addition, the Director of Communications develops metrics to measure success of particular campaigns or communications strategies.

Essential Duties

1. Develop, implement and evaluate a comprehensive strategic communications plan across the constituents (audience segments) of First Pres with attention to message alignment, integration of weekly sermon themes and organization/ministry goals and organization purpose as set by the Lead Pastor and designed to help First Pres advance and achieve key goals.

2. Oversee the development of all branded materials.

3. Provide tools to ministries in order to maintain the brand giving guidelines for use and implementation of ministry communications plans.

4. Develop and/or support communications initiatives within the First Pres ministry helping staff hone their strategic goals for their ministry communication.

5. Provide strategic direction to Communication team members and ministry team members to ensure strategic content engages audience segment and includes measurable action (goals).

6. Develop and implement communications vehicles (print, web, social media, e-materials, newsletters, magazines, brochures, internal and external advertising and marketing tools, video, radio, TV, internet, etc.,) with attention to audience demographics and best practices.

7. Provide direction and partner with church staff on communications projects, including articles, annual reports, corporate web content messaging, brochures and advertising media.

8. Support Executive Team developing special communications materials and tools when needed.

9. Shape project management tools to allow for submission of communication projects by First Pres Staff.

10. Shape, develop and oversee an interactive and engaging web site(s) to deliver strategic compelling messages/content to those visiting the First Presbyterian Church website.

11. Shape, develop and oversee an engaging social media strategy.

12. Develop and manage Communication Department annual budget including ensuring timely submission of invoices and following rules and guidelines set by the First Pres Business Office regards vendors, invoices, business expenses and contracts.

13. Work in partnership with Operations Team members as related to technology, events schedules, facilities, and business office as needed to complete communications planning, tool development and implementation.

3. Engage in opportunities for ongoing spiritual growth including personal retreats and follow-up, worship, staff retreats, Bible study, spiritual mentoring, etc.

4. Represent Christ and First Presbyterian Church with grace and hospitality.

5. Regularly attend appropriate staff meetings, staff chapel and appropriate meetings or events as assigned.

6. Engage in opportunities for ongoing professional growth.

Position Requirements

Faith: Active member of First Presbyterian Church, or

Active member of a local Christian congregation, and

Holds beliefs that are consistent with those of First Presbyterian Church

Education: Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Business Management, Marketing, or related degree from an accredited institution required.

Masters Degree in Marketing or Business desired.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years experience in communications, advertising, marketing, strategic communications or related industry experience. Experience working with strategic communications or marketing planning and implementation desirable. Experience working across multiple media including print, digital, photography and video. Have experienced an environment working across multiple departments with unique characteristics and design needs. Experience leading and managing a department including development and execution of strategic plan for department. Experience providing creative and art direction to designers to achieve organizational goals.

Skills: Proven ability to write and edit. Capacity to think strategically. Proven ability to develop processes to achieve efficient and excellent support to develop various communications tools for ministry. Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign. Clear ability to understand

organizational goals and context and their relationship to overall strategic communications planning.

Required Traits: Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to think critically and strategically to create campaigns, messaging and communications strategies.

Ability to receive and respond to feedback with grace.

Must be able to work independently managing multiple priorities in keeping with overall mission goals established by Lead Pastor and Executive Team.
