The Bureau of Climate and Environmental Health (BCEH) is searching for a Data Visualization Analyst. This person will be responsible for collection, management and integration is critical for environmental public health tracking, for decision making and to improve analysis, enable collaboration, or increase the sustainability or efficiency of systems.Visualization of this data helps to tell stories by curating complex data into a form easier to understand, highlighting the trends and outliers. A good visualization tells a story, removing the noise from data and highlighting useful information about environmental hazards, toxins and other pollutants that can have adverse effects on people’s health.The individual in this position will support the Data Visualization & Management Specialist (DVM Specialist) within the Bureau and provide back support to the Bureau when needed. They will work closely with the DVM Specialist and BCEH’s senior leaders including the BCEH Director, Deputy Directors, Administration and Finance Director, and 7 Program Directors. The Data Visualization Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the data collection, interpretation and visualization from the numerous databases and software programs used by the various BCEH programs and by senior leadership.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

:Serve as the secondary contact for the gathering of data, and database updates, for reporting findings.Support the DVM Specialist in the coordination among BCEH programs with respect to the various databases maintained by the programs.Assist the DVM Specialist with coordination of contractors funded by the Bureau to ensure they are meeting contract deliverables, timelines and budgets for software and database support, portal interfaces and other data extraction, validation, visualization, or manipulation services.Support the DVM Specialist with other stakeholders, when necessary, to exchange information and / or to resolve problems specific to health or environmental data housed in BCEH.Confer with the DVM Specialist to identify operational and organizational challenges and to recommend and assist in implementing solutions. Solutions could range from developing standard operating procedures to changing or updating bureau policies in handling data, to recommending and designing effective and enhanced ways to present environmental health data to interested parties.Support the development and sustainability of technical elements of the portal that shares data for exploratory services, including mapping, downloading, visualizing data.Provide technical assistance and support in business applications and best practices to BCEH senior leaders and staff as needed or when requested.Work with the DVM Specialist to assess and recommend changes to improve systems, operations, methods, and procedures within BCEH related to software and hardware needs that support database applications.Collaborate with the DVM Specialist to enhance existing information systems by adding or improving functionality to integrate, analyze, and visualize data.Assist with the DVM Specialist with implementation of additional innovative enhancements that improve analyses, enable collaboration, or increase the sustainability or efficiency of systems.Simplification of data sharing through common policies, practices, and standards.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Ability to coordinate the efforts of others in accomplishing assigned work objectives.Skill to gather information by questioning individuals and by examining records and documents.Capacity to write concisely, to express thoughts clearly and to develop ideas in a logical sequence.Ability to maintain accurate records.Capacity to determine the proper format and procedure for assembling items of information.Skill to give written and oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner.Talent to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.Ability to exercise sound judgment.Capability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources; controlling work through periodic reviews and/or evaluations; determining subordinates’ training needs and providing or arranging for such training; motivating subordinates to work effectively; determining the need for disciplinary action and either recommending or initiating disciplinary action.PREFERRED QUALIFICAITONS:Experience developing reports, and dashboards, with Tableau, Cognos 11 or Power BI.Mastery of SQL to: query data from existing database, transform data for upload to other databases and create new pre-calculated data sets from source database.Experience working with Oracle, SQL Server or PostgreSQL databases.Proficiency working with statistical software like SAS or Stata.Experience working with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.About
