Technical Designer Overview:
In this role, you will be responsible for bridging the gap between design and production. You will create detailed technical packages, develop and refine patterns, and ensure proper fit and garment construction. Key duties include conducting fit sessions, providing technical guidance, and troubleshooting production issues. Technical Designers collaborate closely with designers, product developers, and manufacturers, requiring strong communication and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in pattern making, garment construction, and design software is essential. This role is critical for ensuring the quality and accuracy of the final products.
Technical Designer Responsibilities:
• Create detailed technical packages (tech packs) including sketches, measurements, fabric specifications, and construction details.• Develop and refine garment patterns to ensure accurate fit and design execution.• Conduct fit sessions and collaborate with designers and product developers to ensure proper garment fit.• Provide technical guidance on garment construction, seams, stitching, and finishing techniques.• Review samples and prototypes to ensure they meet design specifications and quality standards.• Identify and resolve issues related to fit, construction, and fabric performance.• Liaise with designers, pattern makers, product developers, and manufacturers to ensure seamless communication and execution of designs.• Provide clear and precise technical instructions to production teams and vendors.• Address and troubleshoot technical issues that arise during the production process.• Recommend and implement improvements to enhance garment quality and production efficiency.• Stay updated with industry trends, fabric innovations, and advancements in garment construction techniques.• Incorporate new technologies and methodologies to improve product development processes.
Technical Designer Qualifications:
• Degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, Apparel Engineering, or a related field.• 3+ years of experience in a similar role within the fashion and apparel industry.• Strong understanding of fabric properties and performance.• Experience with CAD software and other design tools specifically Centric PLM.• High level of precision in creating and reviewing technical specifications and patterns.• Keen eye for fit, proportion, and garment construction details.• Ability to identify technical issues and develop effective solutions.• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.• Excellent communication skills to effectively convey technical information.• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.• Ability to work with large volume/pace.• In-depth knowledge of fashion trends, market demands, and consumer preferences.• Understanding of production processes and supply chain dynamics in the fashion industry.• Must be able to run a fitting.• Must be willing to work in-office in NYC 5 days a week.
