Position DescriptionThe Asset Renewal Design Manager reports to the Asset Renewal Sr. Project Manager and acts as the primary liaison and airport/owner representative responsible for the Asset Renewal project for all design activities. The Asset Renewal Program replaces end-of-life airport assets, primarily MEP, vertical transportation systems, building enclosure and passenger boarding bridges. The characteristics of the candidate is someone who has extensive knowledge in MEP system construction and commissioning (i.e. has worked for a MEP design consultant). The individual shall be experienced in being able to analyze and understand the design process of MEP and other systems, particularly those within a operating environment. The candidate shall demonstrate a understanding of thinking outside the box to find creative solution to asset replacement where conditions are complex, space constrained and working hours constrained.Project and Position DescriptionThe design will will most likely be performed by multiple design firms and their applicable sub-consultants. The Asset Renewal Design Manager establishes and monitors procedures for architectural & engineering review activities to ensure they are done according to best practices and standards identified in the Contract. The Asset Renewal Design Manager shall oversee design support management, scope of work management, design review and approval, permitting, agency coordination support, and building information modelling (BIM) coordination. The Asset Renewal Design Manager supports the Asset Renewal Sr. Project Manager in providing oversight of the architectural, structural, mechanical electrical plumbing (MEP), civil, utilities, and IT disciplines per LAWA standards.This program is airport wide, but mostly concentrated in the Terminal buildings.Key Job DutiesOverseeing the review and approval of technical documents (DRT process)Lending expertise to manage comment resolutionFacilitating meetings and be the technical liaison between the Developers/Design-Builders and TDIP Subject Matter Expert teamsWorking with the T5 Delivery Director and Project Manager in defining, reviewing and/or approving design requirements, responsibilities and program consistencyProviding guidance to the T5 Delivery Director and T5 Project Manager should design requirements contained in the project documents not be clearly definedProviding technical review of changes to scope of work for each projectEstablishing submittal approval procedures and ensure uniformity of review approachAuditing project team comments and designer responsesMonitoring compliance with architectural and engineering guidelines for the T5 Modernization project ensuring consistency and quality in designMonitoring permitting information and the permitting process required by the design teamSupporting T5 project managers to ensure design reviews are completed on time and within budgetDeveloping and maintaining the T5 Modernization project scope tracker to verify that all scope elements are accounted for and have been or will be assigned to a projectProviding guidance related to the functional requirements contained in the technical specifications or other project documents supplied by LAWAMonitoring BIM productions of all designers and contractors according to LAWA BIM Standards, the BIM Execution Plan, and needs of the T5 Modernization project. The T5 Design Manager is responsible for working with LAWA's Central Building Information Management (cBIM) to develop the strategy for BIM implementation and reviewActing as technical liaison for the design review processes and comment resolution in coordination with the project manager and the Design Review Team (DRT)Providing technical support and coordination between the T5 Modernization project team and other TDIP project teams for program consistency across all disciplinesProviding technical Support for adjacent LAWA projects as required to ensure accurate interfaceProviding technical coordination for project consistency across all disciplinesPreparing and reviewing briefings, meeting agendas, and supporting materials for various meetings including Board presentations, Steering Committee meeting, Stakeholder outreach, and other TDIP meetingsHardware/Software KnowledgeProficient in Microsoft Office Suite and BluebeamFamiliarity with Project Management Information SystemsAbility to work in CAD or REVIT a plusEducation/TrainingBachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Engineering, and/or related field requiredProfessionally licensed Architect and/or Engineer strongly preferred.Professional Experience Level/Other Qualifications15 years or more experience in managing the design of large, complex building projects, utilities and infrastructure improvements, preferably on airport projectsDesign management of complex aviation improvements experience requiredExperience managing a team of design professionalsExperience with projects more than $100 million in value.Experience with various delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, Design+CMAR and Design/BuildProven ability to perform in a management capacityExcellent written and oral communication skills and a thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulationsMust have a self-starter attitude with proactive, results-oriented focus; and willing and capable to assume additional responsibilitiesMust be able to interface with a variety of people with different technical levels and educational backgroundsMust be detail oriented and highly organizedElement-Specific Requirements/NotesMay assume other duties as required/needed.Maybe required to work past regular work shift.Maybe required to work various shifts as needed.
