Visual Media Specialist I

Summary/Objective

This position is responsible for creating compelling photo and video assets that reinforce Ruffwear's mission of building performance dog gear to enhance and inspire adventures for outdoor explorers and their human companions. Reporting to the Visual Media Production Manager, this person will play a key role in capturing and producing high-quality photography and video content, as well as assisting with various production tasks. This person will help deliver engaging content for Ruffwear customers, through branded narrative stories, product education, and for our social media platforms and other digital channels.

Position Requirements

Assist in capturing high-quality photos and videos for various projects, ensuring all content aligns with our brand’s visual style and standards.

Provide support throughout the production process, including logistical coordination, on-set coordination, equipment and prop organization, set-up, and assisting with post-production tasks.

Work with the Creative and Brand Marketing teams to execute Creative Briefs and content objectives.

Assist on shoot, and produce both photography and video assets according to brief and business strategy.

Operate video and photography cameras, lighting, grip, and sound equipment by yourself or with a supporting crew.

Uphold Ruffwear Brand Guidelines for Photography and Video across all deliverables and channels.

Maintain the Ruffwear YouTube Channel, including establishing a consistent video release schedule, seasonal graphics updates, closing copyright claims, video transcripts, and translations.

Work closely with the Visual Media Production Manager and other team members to ensure seamless content creation and production processes.

Manage, organize, upload, and keep up-to-date media assets in the company Media Library.

Edit appropriate existing media down to 0:06/0:15/0:30 second clips for use in digital media advertising.

Coordinate contracts and talent release forms for all media productions.

Ensure all photo and video editing software is up-to-date and suggest software purchases as needed.

Maintain and organize the studio and equipment, refresh, restore, and restock equipment and expendables, and make suggestions for additional purchases when needed.

Maintain and coordinate studio usage when scheduling production time.

Capture photos and videos at company meetings, functions, and events, as needed.

Set up and operate webcams for virtual attendees of company-wide meetings.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office or studio setting (Ruffwear office or home office as necessary). Must possess the ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment (up to 50 lbs), and work outdoors in backcountry settings for on-location shoots, requiring exposure to inclement weather conditions.

Travel

Frequent domestic travel (up to 50% annually) will be required for on-site photo and video production and to attend company-sponsored events.

Required Education and Experience

3+ years of experience in photo and video production, editing, motion graphics, and post-production.

Portfolio of images, video assets, and project work that is consistent with Ruffwear’s brand style and authentic outdoor presentation.

Extensive knowledge and experience using a professional camera, grip, lighting, and sound equipment for in-studio and on-location photo and video shoots.

Knowledge of video codecs, frame rates, compressions, and publishing tools.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with keen attention-to-detail.

Excellent project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator).

Proficiency in color correction and supporting software.

Proficiency in audio sweetening, mixing and, relative software.

Constantly curious about industry innovations, equipment, new photo/video techniques, and channels.

Passion for dogs and first-hand understanding of the interactive bond between canines and humans.

Preferred Education and Experience

Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Photography, Media Production, Digital Arts, Visual Communications, or related field.

FFA Drone Certification (or willingness to obtain within 6 months) and ability to operate a DJI drone.

Experience in the outdoor and/or consumer products industry.

Passion for the outdoors.

Base Salary: $55,000- $65,000 annually

This range represents the low and high end of the anticipated base salary range for this position. The actual base salary will depend on several factors such as experience, knowledge, and skills.
