The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.Position Summary

The Junior Instructional Designer at the School of Professional Studies will play a vital role in supporting the development of engaging and effective instructional materials for learning environments in multiple modalities. Working closely with instructional designer team members, faculty, and other stakeholders, the Junior Instructional Designer will contribute to creating innovative courses that enhance the overall educational experience.

Reporting to the Senior Director or team lead, the Junior Instructional Designer will be a key contributor to developing instructional media, course content, and support materials.

Responsibilities

Instructional Design & Curriculum Support:

Collaborate with instructional design team members and faculty to implement course improvements based on feedback and evaluation results

Consult with and support SPS community members on design issues related to instructional materials and learning activities

Troubleshoot and resolve user inquiries via the Helpdesk or email, escalating complex issues to the appropriate support channels

Create and maintain user documentation and tutorials to assist with common design challenges

Instructional Media & Course Content:

Create multimedia elements, including videos, animations, and interactive content, to enhance course materials

Identify and integrate relevant media resources in collaboration with instructional design team members

Ensure the accessibility and usability of multimedia and course content for diverse learner needs

Work closely with stakeholders to organize content across our platforms

Design instructional materials, including handouts, presentations, and multimedia elements

Project Management & Oversight:

Conduct thorough reviews of course materials, ensuring accuracy, coherence, and adherence to established instructional design standards

Collaborate with faculty to address any issues or enhancements in the course content

Monitor and record the project work through project management tracking software to inform stakeholders of content, feature, and functionality development

Oversee course finishing and authentication and obtain final approvals from faculty and supervisor

Continuous Improvement:

Updates and maintains style guides and course-build templates

Think critically about workflow and practice and propose creative solutions for process improvements

Contribute to faculty development initiatives to improve faculty preparedness in course design, delivery, and assessment

Participate in strategic initiatives to drive innovation and operationalize quality at scale

Research and disseminate best practices that contribute to innovations in teaching and learning with technology

May be responsible for supervising the work of one (1) or more employees

Performs other duties and projects as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related experience required

3 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in multimedia development tools, video editing software, and e-learning authoring tools

Familiarity with instructional design theories, principles, and best practices

Strong organizational and project management skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Comfort with updating and revising HTML is desired but not required

Experience designing and delivering curriculum using a learning management system (e.g. Canvas).

Proficiency in Google tools, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe CS

Working knowledge of ADA compliance, Fair Use guidelines, and the TEACH Act

Quality Matters (QM) training or willingness to complete training within 90 days of hire

Former or current teaching experience preferred
