Position Description

Coordinates a section in a department that has institutional oversight responsibilities. Responsibilities involve the coordination and supervision of the various functions and aspects of a specific program or departmental project as well as the monitoring of program staff and operational procedures. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on results obtained. May supervise program staff, volunteers and/or students.

About the Department and/or College

Texas Tech University Libraries serve as a vital partner with students and faculty in their learning endeavors. The University Libraries' system comprises: (1) University Library, (2) Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library, (3) Architecture Library, and (4) Peters Family Legacy Library. The University Library is a patent and trademark depository and is one of two regional depositories for U.S. government documents in Texas. The central focus of the Texas Tech University Libraries is to make available 3.72 million physical volumes, electronic resources, special collections and archives, and to offer services to students and faculty that enable academic and research success.

Major/Essential Functions

Handle the recording, mixing, and mastering of audio content in the Texas Tech Libraries Recording Studio.Ensure the proper operation and maintenance of studio equipment and software.Implement sound design and engineering techniques to enhance the audio quality of patron projects.Conduct thorough quality checks to eliminate any technical glitches, audio issues, or inconsistencies in the final audio content.Assist in live recording sessions, troubleshoot technical problems, and ensure the seamless operation of equipment.Collaborate closely with Librarian, Unit Manager, and patrons to realize the vision of each project.Participate in complex, long-term planning of Libraries Recording projects to contribute to the ongoing charge of the Recording and Podcast Studios.Assist the Unit Manager and Librarian with scheduling, operation, and maintenance of the Texas Tech Libraries Recording and Podcast Studios as needed.Help train, oversee, evaluate, and serve as an example for the unit's student assistants, including assisting with the student workflow as needed.Serve as customer service contact point for library patrons using Libraries Recording.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrates proficiency with current recording technologies in order to facilitate recording sessions in a timely manner from start to finish.Stays informed with new techniques and standards.Understands hardware and software integration.Demonstrates proficiency in standard equipment and instrument maintenance.Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrates flexibility in work assignments.Works with high level of attention to detail and accuracy.Excellent customer service skills.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree plus two (2) years related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience to equal six (6) years.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree in Sound Recording Technology or related field.Specialized recording equipment usage, maintenance, and upkeep, including but not limited to outboard sound processors, microphones, and digital audio workstations.Office management and collaborative tools, such as Microsoft Outlook suite, email and other web based applications as needed.

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan.
