EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part Time, Non-exempt

EFFECTIVE DATE: 06.21.18

TYPICAL HOURS REQUIRED: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Graphic Design Specialist will enhance the print and online messaging of Portland Rescue Mission’s communication through professional and strategic graphic design.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Design strategic and effective print materials (newsletters, brochures, advertisements and more), for the Marketing Department’s donor communications, other departments and social enterprises.

Communicate effectively with print vendors, provide spec sheets and press-ready files, and ensure timely delivery of finished materials.

Provide graphic design support in digital communications channels (e.g. social media content, quarterly website updates)

Receive broad creative input while working with the Director of Marketing to prioritize, schedule and execute all projects with excellence and professionalism.

Work efficiently within established timelines and budgets to deliver on-target results.

Help identify and engage with graphic design freelancers who can relieve pressure at peak periods.

Develop practical timelines for primary direct response projects while responding quickly to priority design requests when immediate opportunities emerge.

Provide supplemental writing and photography as needed.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Work under the management and direction of the Director of Marketing and function as an active part of the Marketing Department.

Embrace the Portland Rescue Mission ministry culture.

Provide creative input to improve overall performance in Portland Rescue Mission’s donor relations efforts.

Lead or collaborate with others, across departments and within the Marketing Department to gather complete research needs and share ownership of finished work.

Actively explore and report on trends and new opportunities.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

In this and any position with Portland Rescue Mission, it is impossible to predict the many requests and assignments that can and will be made on an employee. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

College degree in related field or experience equivalent.

Multi-tasker, self–starter, deadline-driven.

Demonstrated ability to be a team player.

Professional-level graphic design skills – SAMPLES REQUIRED.

Highly proficient in industry-standard design software (Adobe Creative Suite—Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, etc.).

Thorough understanding of print production processes and experience producing pre-press files.

Knowledge of digital camera use, photo exposure settings, photo composition and editing of camera RAW files.

Strong writing and photography skills are desirable. Good grammar is essential.

High comfort level with computers, printers and technology.

Experience in Microsoft Office software.
