OUR MISSION
The mission of the Eastern Star Church ministry is evangelism and discipleship. We are committed to the great commission instituted by Jesus Christ that is to nurture and save souls (Matthew 28:18-20), and everything we do - developing ministries and programs, staffing, building facilities, stewardship, membership, outreach - is for the purpose of being obedient to the commission of Christ.
YOUR ROLE IN OUR MISSION
The Communications Director is responsible for providing direction and strategy for all internal, external and online ministry/digital communications. This includes overseeing the video and production efforts for worship services and events as well as the marketing and public relations activities of Eastern Star Church. This person empowers and guides a team to develop and implement communication and marketing strategies to ensure the timely, creative, efficient and effective communication of Eastern Star Church's mission, values, ministries and programs. All of these efforts are focused to engage with people in the congregation and community to help them connect and grow in their understanding and faith with Christ.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Communications
Oversee communications to and with staff, leadership, the congregation (including all Eastern Star Church locations) and all communities where Eastern Star Church is striving to connect. This includes the church's online ministry/digital communications as well.Develop strategic communications strategies and a communications plan focused on tiered communication strategies, priority messaging and storytelling while always helping people take next steps - for internal, external and online communications at and through Eastern Star Church.Be a part of and meet regularly with Eastern Star Church's leadership team and other church/ministry leaders to ensure strategic communications planning for the church as a whole along with the multiple locations and ministry areas.Oversee the church's production team and work with their leaders to ensure there is alignment with their work for worship services, events, video and storytelling with the church's overall communications and marketing efforts.Relationships and Management
Act as an advocate for creative, clear and strategically aligned communication in leadership settings.Develop, maintain and implement processes, project management tools and standards which enable effective communication flow in all planning throughout the church.Educate staff, ministry leaders and others in the congregation about procedure and processes for communicating church messages effectively.Connect with all staff and ministry teams/leaders in a relational way and on a regular basis to understand their ministry goals, plans, needs and requests.Provide leadership to build, manage, coach, train, encourage and empower a communications ministry team made up of staff and volunteers. This includes multiple direct reports.Nurture staff and volunteers in this area of ministry toward Christlikeness and the fulfillment of the church's mission.Determine communications project agendas, priorities and timelines.Communications Planning and Tactics
Writing/editing/proofing
Strong writer and editor for a variety of communications tools (print, presentations, reports, web and social media)Design/creativity
Has a working knowledge and understanding of basic design principlesCommunicates and partners well with graphic artists to brainstorm and create a variety of toolsWeb/Social Media/App
Can develop an overall vision and strategy for the church's online effortsAbility to manage and empower a team to maintain the church's web, eNews, App and social media presenceStays current with and adapts to latest trends, technologies and techniques for digital communications and marketingPrint
Oversees development of church print pieces, including collateral (letterhead, biz cards, etc.), brochures, guest materials, etc.Evaluates publications and initiates content reorganization and redesign as neededVerbal/Multimedia in Worship Services
Collaborates with the pastors, leaders, production team and others regarding worship service communication guidelines, including storytelling, key messaging (announcements) and use of multimedia toolsOversees weekly announcements and related promotionsPhysical space
Provides oversight of lobby/common areas and the communication/promotion pieces in these areas for all Eastern Star Church locationsProvides oversight for signage and displays at all locationsExternal/Other
Oversees all external communications, including marketing, advertising and outreach efforts through web/online, print, direct mail, etc.Able to identify opportunities for the church to communicate its message externally through news media (press releases, publicizing events, creating events of interest, etc.)Serves as a public/media relations contact as designated by church leadersDevelops and updates a crisis communications planDevelops and manages departmental budgetsPrepares and presents reports as requiredOther related duties as assignedRequirements
