Job Summary

We are excited to be hiring for a Library Specialist at Glendale Community College. Come and join our Library team! This position provides customer service and technical support to the GCC Library community within the Access Services department (major focus on Circulation, Collection management, and Reserves). This position will also work directly with Librarians to support the GCC Library Reimagine MakerSpace by performing various tasks at a paraprofessional level. Finally, the Library Specialist will also be expected to participate in special projects and represent the library in outreach programs, various committees, and campus events.

Essential Functions30% - Works as a contributing member of a diverse team to assist library patrons at the circulation desk with the use of library services; provides direct customer service at the circulation desk using an integrated library system; troubleshoots library technology, including computers, printers/copiers, and media equipment; assists with locating library materials, stack maintenance, and collection development; adheres to and reinforces library policies30% - Assists students/staff utilize the technology of the GCC Library Reimagine Makerspace (3D Printers & Scanners, Vinyl Cutters, Wood Engravers, VR, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Design Software, etc). Performing duties such as 3D printing; assisting with student projects; resolving equipment issues; inventory and organization; and staffing of the space.20% - Processes, tracks, and inventories library Reserve materials utilizing an integrated library system, Google Suite and MS Access Database. Works with librarians and faculty to produce online access for students via LibGuides.10% - Helps plan and participate in special projects, social media, and outreach programs; orders equipment and office supplies; serves on college/district committees; pursues professional growth; performs other duties as assigned.10% - Collaborates within the Access Services team, alongside library faculty, and student workers to further the mission and goals of the library

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and one year of experience in library support services such as library information resources, circulation services and equipment coordination.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered

Desired Qualifications

A. Two or more years of experience in a library environment, performing various access services tasks such as circulation services, collection maintenance, or reserves, etc).

B. One or more years of experience in a college or academic environment assisting students.

C. Six months or more experience in a makerspace or similar environment.

D. Demonstrated knowledge or experience using various makerspace technology and equipment, such as 3D printers & scanners, engravers, VR equipment, Arduino/pi, design software, etc.

E. Experience using technology such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office, various internet browsers, and/or office technology (such as printers/copiers, scanners)
