ABOUT THE UT NATALIE L. HASLAM COLLEGE OF MUSIC

JOB SUMMARY:

With a rich history of music excellence at the University of Tennessee, the former School of Music officially became a college in July 2023. As one of the few standalone music colleges among state universities in the United States, the Natalie L. Haslam College of Music (NLHCOM) affords music students a wide variety of professional experiences. Students can explore music through the lenses of analysis, business, composition, conducting, education, musicology, performance, and technology. Now is an exciting time as the newly formed NLHCOM builds its team to support its students and faculty, build connections with alumni, and cultivate relationships with the community and supporters of the college.The college seeks applicants for its new Multimedia Manager position. This is a highly collaborative role and crucial leader in building the college’s digital video and audio content in support of various purposes such as public-facing recruitment initiatives and social media campaigns, as well as internally developed faculty/student research and projects. This position will have the opportunity to engage in international travel to capture high-impact digital content, including but not limited to ensemble footage, faculty and student performances, and college study abroad opportunities. Under the supervision and mentorship of the Director of Information & Music Technology, this position will also have the professional opportunity to receive training in audio/video live event support, music technology, and technology library administration with the intention of this person ultimately managing these responsibilities. The schedule for this position is flexible and will often include evenings and weekends for both event support and concert/event documentation. This role will be responsible for developing and mentoring a production team of student interns/workers.This person must have a propensity for learning new technology and equipment operation, as well as exhibiting the self-driven attitude needed in shaping a new role. Successful candidates will have excellent oral and written communication skills, have research and analytical skills, be highly organized amidst numerous projects and priorities, and be able to work with a wide variety of people. This person must be able to produce and edit videos and take artistic and stylistic control from project concept to completion, collaboratively aligning personal vision and creativity with institutional standards, policies, and patron needs while fostering a unified visual identity for the college.APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

The salary range for this position is $62,000 – $67,000 and is dependent upon experience.·

Eligible for a hybrid (in-office/remote) work schedule following a six-month probationary period.JOB FUNCTIONS:

Video & Audio Production:·

Take artistic and stylistic control over video projects, aligning with patrons' needs, University standards, and the College’s visual identity.·

Operate cameras, microphones, and lighting equipment to capture high-quality audio/video footage for various purposes including recruitment, social media, and faculty initiatives.·

Serve as the primary editor for the College's video materials.·

Lead the audio recording, mixing, and editing for faculty projects, ensembles, and special events, ensuring top-notch sound quality for classical instruments.·

Stay updated on emerging trends in A/V technology, equipment, and techniques to ensure college recording equipment and digital materials meet modern standards.·

Plan and deliver high-impact digital resources, which will include international travel opportunities for capturing videography/photography.·

Conduct annual equipment cost planning for multimedia projects.Project Management:·

Oversee all aspects of audio/video projects from initial concept to final delivery, ensuring high-quality production.·

Work closely with the college’s Office of Marketing and Communications, who will drive the storytelling and content development, while this position focuses on videography production and editing to ensure adherence to university branding and effective publication strategy.·

Ensure compliance with copyright laws and University policy for all digital publications.·

Engage with patrons to determine project scope and maintain correspondence through project completion.·

Lead and mentor student workers and interns in audio/video recording, editing, and production.·

Manage and maintain an archive of digital A/V materials.·

Participate in and potentially lead Lean process development sessions within a cross-functional framework.Tech Services & Library Management:·

Manage and administer the music technology library and its annual inventory, ensuring equipment requests are compliant with University Equipment and Conflict of Interest policies.·

Serve as a consultant and educational resource for faculty and student patrons, providing guidance on audio/video recording techniques and equipment usage.·

Strategize, coordinate, assemble, and operate A/V equipment in support of live College events.·

Provide technical support during events to ensure seamless execution and high-quality audio/video experiences.·

Responsible for procuring all supplies related to music technology.·

Manage purchasing for Tech Office funds and Tech fees, working directly with external vendors and in close coordination with the NLHCOM Office of Finance & Administration for university fiscal policy adherence.

QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This position will have frequent travel obligations. Therefore, a valid driver’s license is required.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in video production, audio/recording engineering, or a related field.Experience:

At least 2 years of video and/or audio production experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.Skills:·

Proficient knowledge and understanding of artistic and technical principles and trends in video and audio production.·

Ability to align personal artistry, creativity, and vision with patrons’ needs and institutional standards.·

Advanced knowledge of video recording techniques, production, lighting, and editing.·

Advanced skill in operating audio/video equipment and tools, such as video cameras, microphones, lighting, and audio/video editing software.·

Intermediate knowledge of audio recording and editing techniques, particularly for classical instruments, voices, and ensembles.·

Intermediate ability to create and utilize graphics and graphics animation·

Leadership skills to guide and mentor student workers and interns effectively.·

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and customer service skills.·

Strong organizational skills to manage concurrent projects, digital archives, and library circulation.·

Ability to use and navigate spreadsheets, digital databases, project management tools, and learn new software. Research skills to proactively develop abilities and maintain alignment with industry standards.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Education:
