The Hiring Range for this position is: $68,746.82 - $85,933.52/Annually

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENTThe Graphic Design Supervisor for the Communications and Marketing Department at the City of Aurora promotes efficiency, team development and design standards. Ensures visual communication with brand guidelines that reflect the cities culture and values. The Graphic Arts teamwork for every city department including those of all appointees and produce thousands of quality jobs each year. Their work furthers the priorities of the City Strategic Plan through copy, imagery, and design. This position is hybrid and requires the ability to work in office with potential for some remote capabilities.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages the day-to-day operations of graphic design team to ensure the completion of a variety of design projects

Supervises five direct reports. Handles all personnel actions and performance reviews

Consults with clients regarding project requirements, defines project scope, timeline, and design standards

Manages all design and print requests -- reviews, assigns, and approves all design project requests to ensure information is accurate and actionable for graphic design team

Advises on best practices for visual communication and provides technical expertise regarding graphic design software, layout and color management

Researches and stays apprised of trends in the profession. Assesses and offers cost effective ways to deliver the highest quality design to all customers

Contributes to the personal and professional development of team members to grow their strengths and opportunities for growth

Develops processes and procedures to increase efficiency for the design team and stakeholders

Works with Sr Print Technician to ensure design files follow proper requirements and adhere to standards

Ensures project assignments meet established standards and deadlines

Reviews design team workload and assigns new projects based on bandwidth and skill set

Ensures office supplies are maintained, including checking inventory and working with vendors to always ensure adequate levels of necessary supplies

Conducts administrative tasks such as credit card reconciliations and processing vendor bills

Conducts team meetings

Provides support to the Marketing and Creative Manager including overseeing budget and expenditures of the graphics unit

Performs other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Experience:

At least 6 years of related to the area of assignment in graphic design, art direction and copy experience.

At least 4 years supervising and mentoring a team of graphic designers.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with After Effects, Premiere Pro, UX, HTML, web design, or equivalent programs.

Experience with social media and display advertisement formats, best practices, and platforms.

Experience creating digital advertisements for A/B testing to inform content performances and best practices.

Experience creating animation, cinemograph, and video advertisements.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of promotion, marketing, and branding.

Personal computers, related hardware, and related software application packages.

Knowledge of graphic design, printing process, typography, layout best practices, and packaging design files.

Analytical skills to identify trends.

Skills:

Good understanding of design techniques, port-production standards, and best practices, from screen and print color, type, illustration, photography.

Experience with various layout techniques.

Familiar with print set up and coordinating projects with a print production shop.

Well versed in the latest Adobe Suite software including Photoshop Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat

Comfortable working on a Mac computer

Use of personal computers and related graphic design software

Strong interpersonal skills

Skill in design layout and paste up for producing camera ready art.

Skill in making presentations both orally and in writing.

Abilities:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors, customers, and user departments.

Be comfortable presenting ideas and able to manage professional critique.

Good communication skills and be able to work with clients from all areas and levels of the organization.

Ability to working on multiple projects at any time, this person should be able to multitask, have good time Management skills to meet deadlines, and be able to prioritize work as needed.

May be required at times to support events and other duties as the position and team requires.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

Colorado Driver's License with a good driving record.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Essential Personnel:

When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands:

Medium physical work

lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds with or without assistance.

Occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing.

Frequent hand/eye coordination for operation of drafting tools, cameras, computers, and various equipment used in drafting.

Vision for reading and interpreting reports and performing graphic designing.

Frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communication with employees and citizens

Speech communication to give instructions and provide technical direction.

Work Environment:

Works primarily in a clean, comfortable office environment, may work occasionally in an outdoor environment.

May works nights and weekend.

Equipment Used:

Frequently uses standard office equipment including computer with design software and video camera.

Graphic tools.

This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
