New Orleans, LASummaryThe Director of Public Safety Communications and Technology for Tulane University's Police Department plans, directs, and manages the operations of the Communications Center, oversees the records division, and maintains operational oversight of all departmental technologies. This individual will be responsible for the supervision of communications staff, management of departmental records, compliance with state and federal records laws, information technology, as well as property and evidence. The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with established institutional and departmental goals, policies and procedures, as well as compliance with policies and procedures of the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) as stated in the user agreement and cooperative endeavor agreement with TUPD. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for developing strategic growth as related to communications and other technology.Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesDemonstrated knowledge of industry technologyDemonstrated knowledge of State and Federal records requirementsDemonstrated effective written and oral communication skillsAbility to work in a multi-cultural settingDemonstrated problem solving skillsAbility to provide direction and make decisions under pressureAbility to organize, plan and present operational goals and strategiesAbility and willingness to demonstrate respect and safeguard the dignity and rights of all individualsKnowledge of university and police department rules, regulations and other written directives and the ability to interpret and effectively implement such policies in the work environmentAbility to operate computerized equipment including basic typing/keyboarding skills and two-way radioAbility to multi-taskThorough working knowledge of Communications Unit equipment and systemsDemonstrated knowledge of Federal, State, Local and other regulatory boards and requirements governing radio and electronic transmissionAbility and willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, officials of law enforcement, firefighting, and emergency medical care agencies, as well as representatives from other local, State, and Federal agencies and the publicExcellent analytical skills; ability to effectively compile, calculate, analyze and present statistical dataAbility to maintain confidentiality in all work performedRequired Education and/or ExperienceBachelor's Degree and three (3) years' directly related experienceORHigh School Diploma/Equivalent and nine (9) years' directly related experience. Intermediate Technology experience requiredPOST HIRE TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Must successfully complete the following mandatory trainings, as well as obtain and retain all required certifications:Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)National Crime Information Center (NCIC)Enhanced 911 training and certificationAPCO Telecommunicator I and II certificationAn approved Communications Officer training course and an approved department training programPreferred QualificationsPrevious communications work experience in an academic or municipal environmentCompensation InformationThis position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade 27.
