Sheppard Mullin an Am Law 50 firm, is seeking a hard-working, motivated individual to serve as a Business Development and Marketing Manager for the firm’s highly ranked Healthcare Industry Team (“IT”).

This position can be based in any of our Southern California offices: Century City, Downtown Los Angeles, Orange County, Del Mar, San Diego. There is only one opening.

This position has a remote/hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation to be in the office on an as needed basis.

This pivotal role involves working closely with IT Leaders (ITLs) and team members to deepen our market penetration, enhance client engagement, and drive growth through strategic marketing and business development initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of strategic insight, marketing expertise, and a deep understanding of the healthcare sector. The individual is expected to be proactive in identifying internal and external opportunities while also being responsive to the marketing needs of the attorneys in the IT.

Responsibilities:

Engage with ITLs and members to gain deep and practical knowledge of IT sub-specialties, market segments, geographic presence, clients, and matters.

Assume primary responsibility for researching, identifying, budgeting, planning, and executing seminars, webinars, sponsorships and speaking engagements for the IT to expand existing client relationships or acquire new ones.

Manage the calendar for strategic submissions (e.g., Chambers) and award nominations, focusing on showcasing high-profile matters and attorneys. Explore additional opportunities for credential building.

Consistently update and manage all IT-related marketing materials, including the website, brochures and one-pagers.

Collaborate with the Library and competitive intelligence experts to deliver comprehensive company research and current insights on industry trends, leveraging this information to uncover and pursue business development opportunities.

Manage pitches and Requests for Proposal for the IT. Support and facilitate preparation sessions for presentations to clients and prospects, focusing on new or expanded service offerings.

Spearhead efforts to enhance the IT’s visibility through media engagement by identifying emerging trends, highlighting significant case victories, and supporting thought leadership activities in collaboration with our PR and social media teams.

Monitor IT blogs and identify opportunities for cross-marketing to enhance content reach and engagement.

Support lateral integration.

Utilize project management tools, such as Monday.com, to oversee IT projects, tracking progress against business objectives.

Essential Functions of Job:In addition to the responsibilities identified above:

Act as a resource to attorneys in the IT by having a deep understanding of the firm resources and the IT (matters, clients, and attorneys).

Respond promptly to attorney requests and manage expectations.

Share best practices with other members of the BD and Marketing Team.

Coordinate effectively with other professional administrative departments of the firm.

Supervisory Responsibilities:No direct subordinates, but there are many resources available inside and outside the dept., e.g., Graphics; Library; Practice Management. If an assignment is delegated, it is incumbent upon the BD and Marketing Manager to ensure the job is done, done well and on time.

Qualifications and ExperienceRequired Qualifications:

5-7 years of business development and marketing experience in professional services. Excellent oral and written communication skills; client service orientation and “can do” attitude; strong people skills; ability to work on multiple projects; and able to work both as part of a team and function independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

5-7 years of business development and marketing experience in a law firm preferred. Healthcare industry legal marketing and business development experience is a plus.

Bachelor’s Degree

Computer/Software KnowledgeRequired:

Standard computer knowledge expected (e.g., Microsoft Suite).Preferred:

InterAction, Foundation, Monday.com or similar project management tools

Work Environment

A fun, supportive, transparent and fast-paced environment.

You will be based in one of our local Sheppard Mullin offices but will be allowed to work from home.

Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel RequirementsUp to 30%. Travel locally and nationally to help facilitate IT’s participation in conferences, trade shows, receptions, etc.

California: The salary range for the position is $130,800 to $165,000 per year.
